Clarmth
(Clean Warmth) The feeling of putting on a piece of clothing straight from the dryer.
Rain drummed on the roof and windows, but I didn’t mind. My feet padded across the living room rug as I took care of some chores that had been neglected. Every few minutes I snuck a peek at the kitchen clock, eager for the dryer to finish its cycle.
I slowly stepped into the laundry room. The dim light from the dryer’s display illuminated the white walls and stale air like a beacon in the night. I squinted to make out the numbers - five minutes remaining.
Retracing my steps, I made my way towards my studio. My mind not focusing on the clock anymore I was unaware of the time passing by until a bright melody began to play signifying the dryer was finally done.
I sprinted through the house, avoiding any stray items I'd yet to pick up as I barreled into the laundry room. My heart was pounding as I flung open the dryer, searching frantically for my prize.
I let out a triumphant shout when my fingers grazed the edges of my soft, worn sweats. After giving them a quick check to make sure they were dry, I slid them up my bare legs with a satisfied smile.
Rubbing my fingers over the material, I let out an audible sigh as I felt the warmth wrap around my body. The scent of detergent and fabric softener drifted into my nose as I sank further into its comforting embrace.
Nothing could beat this feeling.
