"Don't be alarmed," said the Grave Keeper.
There was silence.
"I know you remember your end. It's okay now," he said as he tended to the tree. The unusual tree.
Unusual, at least, outside of this city. Here the tree was the same as the others. People were planted in this earth.
"You'll like it here," he said soothingly. He clipped the hair the tree was growing.
It could hear him. It had no mouth yet.
There was silence.
"Welcome to our city," said the Grave Keeper. He turned to admire the forest of people.
