Sonia sat silently on the bus. It had been an awful day - going from appointment to appointment. She was tired and hungry. It would be at least another hour before she got home.

She noticed a spot on the top of her shoe; she licked her finger and attempted to wipe it away. The man in the seat ahead of her fumbled through papers in his backpack. A teenage boy a few seats back kept scratching his arms; the ragged sound made her cringe. When the boy caught her looking, Sonia quickly turned away. He kept glancing in her direction; she could feel his steely gaze.

When the bus stopped fast to let off a passenger, something fell to the floor three seats ahead of Sonia. She strained to catch a glimpse of the pink and white object. At the next stop, it slid further away from its owner and closer to Sonia.

“This is our stop,” said the women next to her.

Sonia grabbed her mother’s hand, took a couple steps, and quickly bent down to seize her prize - a tiny bunny.
