Caesar yawned and stretched as he left his little bed, folding back his ears and arching his back before dropping down to curl his fluffy tail around his legs. He began to bathe himself to clear away the weariness that clung to him like glue.
Once he was clean, he turned his gaze to his favorite window, one that overlooked the neighbor’s yard. He strode towards the window with a whiskery smile. Sitting underneath the sill, he pushed off his back legs to leap, sitting with a delighted purr.
His owner had left the house at noon to give a gift to the neighbor, and Caesar had curled up to nap after having waited at the door to no avail. His neighbor lay motionless on the driveway, something gleaming protruding from her chest. Next to her, there was another figure who lay with shattered glass surrounding them. Caesar’s eyes went wide, and he loosed a loud yowl.
His owner!
