The Redduck Family Tales. “A New Life.”

“Story Time of Unborn Baby.”

1

Breakfast (Family Time)

Kyle is sitting at the breakfast table with his parents. He is about to eat pancakes, sausage, oatmeal, and juice. He starts to eat his meal and his mom stops him.

“Wait before you eat your food. You know we always must give thanks to God for our food.”

Kyle replied, “Yes mam.” Everyone closes their eyes and bows their heads. Kyle says the grace.

“God, thank you for awakening us to receive this meal. We thank you for all you do for us in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

2

Kyle eats his pancakes and asks for more.

“Son, you have quite the appetite.”

Mr. Redduck places more pancakes on Kyle’s plate.

“Thanks, dad. Mom, these pancakes are really good.”

“Thank you. I’m glad you are enjoying your breakfast.”

Twenty minutes later, Kyle prepares himself for school. He grabs his book bag and pencils. The school bus arrives and places out its emergency stop flashers. Kyle runs out the door. His mom calls him back.

“Kyle come back. It is chilly. Take this jacket with you. Also, didn’t you forget something?”

“Oh yes. Mom. I need a dollar for some snacks.”

“I wasn’t talking about that Kyle. You didn’t give me my hug and kiss before school.”

Kyle walks over to his mom and gives her a hug and kiss. He also rubs and kisses his mama’s stomach.

Mrs. Redduck is expecting her unborn baby girl in three months.

“Now that’s my boy. You have a wonderful day at school. Be nice to your friends. Bye-bye!”

“Bye, mom.”

3

Kyle walks towards his school bus.

4

Story Time

(Mom, Dad and Kyle Redduck)

Kyle is in his parents’ room sitting on the bed. He has his favorite book in his hands.

5

“Mom. Is it all right if I read a story to my sister? I want to read the Three Little Pigs story to her.”

“Sure honey. Reading makes babies grow up smart. I would always read stories and play music for you when I was carrying you. That is why you are so smart.”

“You read to me mom, when I was in your tummy.”

“That’s right. I read every night to you until you were born.”

“But mom. I do not remember you reading to me, in your tummy. What did I do when you read to me? Was I scared? Was I smiling? Tell me!”

“Kyle, you would move around in my stomach and kick me sometimes. You slept sometimes. But when I played music, you started to move around like you were dancing.”

“Wow! My sister must be kicking too because your stomach keeps pushing out when I put my hand on your tummy. Daddy, did you see me kick, when I was in mom’s tummy?”

“Son, you sure did kick. You also made your mama crave ice cream, pickles, chocolate, and chips throughout the night. You had me going to the store for your mom almost every night.”

“I guess that’s why I like pickles so much. Mom gave them to me before I was born. I wish I could see what my sister looks like and if she can see me.”

6

“You can see her when we go to the doctor’s office for mom’s next appointment. They have machines that show images of babies and how they grow.”

“Wow! That is cool. I cannot wait to see her mom.”

Kyle continues to read to his sister until he falls asleep. Mr. Redduck picks up Kyle and takes him into his room. He pulls his comforter back and tucks him in his bed. He turns off the lights and closes his door.

Mrs. Redduck walks downstairs into the kitchen. She opens the refrigerator up and takes out ice cream and chocolate syrup. She grabs two bowls out the cabinet along with cookies. She places her and her husband butter pecan ice cream in a bowl. Then, she walks back upstairs into her bedroom. She turns on the television as Mr. Redduck sits on the bed.

“There you go again craving sweets. You are going to turn into ice cream. Where is my ice cream?”

“I didn’t forget about you. I made you a bowl. It’s in the kitchen on the table.”

“But I want to taste some of your ice cream.”

Mrs. Redduck places ice cream on a spoon and feeds it to her husband. Mr. Redduck eats it and asks for more ice cream.

“You have got to go downstairs and get your ice cream. No more for you.”

7

Mr. Redduck laughs at his wife. Then, he hugs and kisses her. He leaves the room and goes downstairs to the kitchen to eat his ice cream.

“Kyle Visits the Doctor’s Office.”

9

Kyle, Mitchell, Bobby, Regina, Sallie, and Jessica are at the park playing kick ball with Mitchell’s Aunt, Sara. Sara rolls the ball to Kyle, and he kicks it. He runs around the bases to home base. Jessica raises her hand and gives Kyle a high five.

It is now Sallie’s turn to kick the ball. Sara rolls the ball to Sallie. Sallie kicks the ball and runs to first base. Bobby hit her with the ball. She is out.

10

Kyle is upset and yells at Sallie.

“You always get out! We never win with you. I hope when my sister is born, she is a better kicker.”

Sallie starts to cry. Sara places her arms around Sallie and gives her a hug. Then, Sara speaks to Kyle about his remarks to Sallie.

“Kyle it’s not nice to talk to your friend like you did. Sallie may need a little more practice. This is a game of fun. She is your teammate. You should support her in the game. Give her tips to help her.”

“That’s right. I do not say terrible things to you when you need help with your math.”

Kyle apologies to Sallie.

“I’m sorry Sallie for yelling at you. I just wanted to win the game.”

“It’s okay. I’ll try harder next time and run faster.”

11

The ice cream truck passes through the park. Sara purchases ice cream for all the children and for herself. The children sit on the bench as they eat their ice cream while chatting.

12

Mitchell says, “Look. I have a snow cone with three different favors. Cherry, blueberry and lime.”

Bobby says, “I have a superman ice cream. The wrapper says, “I win a free ice cream next time.”

Kyle says, “I’ve got a chocolate banana ice cream.”

Sallie, Regina, and Jessica all have a Barbie ice cream cone.

Kyle asked, “What kind did you get Mrs. Sara?”

Sara replied, “I have a nutty buddy ice cream.”

Bobby starts to talk about his baby brother.

“Kyle, when is your mom going to have the baby?”

Kyle replied, “Soon. I hope. Sometimes, I get tired of rubbing my mom’s tummy as she reads to the baby. I’m ready to see her in person.”

“I remember when my brother was born, everything changed. I had to give him all my little toys. He cried all night. My mom did not want me to touch him because I was too small to hold him. Everybody picked him up but me. I used to receive gifts at Christmas time. But now he receives more gifts than me. I hope it does not happen to you.”

13

Jessica starts to speak.

“Bobby is right. When my sister was born, she got all the attention. It was if I was gone away. Grandma used to give me big hugs and kisses. She would hold me in her lap. She would always bring me a toy and cookies. But when my sister was born, grandma would tell me to sit down, and we would just watch television while she held the baby.”

Regina says, “None of that happened to me. My mom still gave me toys. She would let me hold and feed my sister. Mom told me I was the big sister and should take care of my baby sister. She let me help her out with my sister.”

Sallie speaks.

“I do not have a baby sister. But I do have an older adopted sister that is twelve. She and I argue sometimes but we make up. She takes me with her to her friend’s home. We play board games and eat snacks. She stays up later than me which is unfair to me. She’s allowed to pick out family movies and she always sits in the front seat of my parents’ vehicle.”

Mitchell says, “I have a baby brother. My mom lets me hold him with a bottle in his mouth. She lets me change his diaper and give him a bath while she helps me. I had to change my clothes because he pee-pee on me when mom changed his diaper. When grandma comes over, she watches him. Then, mom and I go to the park or a movie.”

Kyle says, “I know it will be fun to have a sister around the house. I will be in charge because I am older. She will need my help with things. I will be glad when she is born.”

14

After everyone has finished eating their ice cream, Sara tells them to throw their trash away in the garbage can. She also tells everyone to sit down and to buckle their seat belts on the van. Everyone follows Sara’s directions on the van. Then, Sara drives away from the park.

15

Mom, Dad and Kyle are waiting in the doctor’s office for a routine check-up for the baby. A nurse walks into the room. She gives Mrs. Redduck paperwork to complete. Then, the nurse says, “Mrs. Redduck. “I am going to have you go into the vacant room and undress. The doctor will come in shortly to examine you and the baby.”

Mr. Redduck asked, “May my son and I go in with my wife to see the baby?”

Nurse Kathy replied, “Normally, we only have the mother and father in the room. But we can make an exception, as long as Kyle is a good boy.”

Kyle stands up and shouts.

“I’ll be good. I promise.”

Mrs. Redduck has undressed in the room. She lays down on the bed and waits for Dr. Smith.

Dr. Smith enters the room and greets everyone.

“Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Redduck. How is everybody doing?”

Everyone replied, “Good.”

Dr. Smith starts his examination. First, he places gloves on and places gel on Mrs. Redduck’s stomach. He places probes on her stomach as he moves around checking out the baby.

Kyle and Mr. Redduck watch as Dr. Smith monitors the images of the baby on the screen.

16

Kyle asked, “What’s that stuff on mom’s tummy?”

Dr. Smith responds, “Its gel Kyle. We place it on the stomach, so we are able to feel the baby’s movements and to take good pictures.”

Kyle replied, “Oh. I had gel one time. But it was for my mom’s hair.”

Dr. Smith shows the family all the body parts of the baby on the monitor screen. He lets them listen to the heartbeat of the baby.

Mr. Redduck smiles as he sees his unborn daughter’s movements on the monitor screen.

17

Mr. Redduck says, “It’s so amazing. I can see life before it is here. I’m going to have my little girl soon.”

Mr. Redduck pats his son on the head and says to him.

“Kyle, you will be a big brother to your sister. You have to protect her.”

“I know daddy. She is so small. I will have to help her in school and take care of her.”

“That’s right son. Take care of your sister.”

Kyle yells out.

“Dad! Look at her eyes, mouth, and hands. She looks like she is about to eat or drink something. She’s got her hand in her mouth.”

Dr. Smith replied, “That’s right Kyle. She does look like she is hungry.”

Dr. Smith saves the ultrasound image. Then, he explains the results to the parents.

“Mr. and Mrs. Redduck, your baby girl looks healthy. She has a strong heartbeat. She has all ten fingers and toes. Her organs are well-developed. You should be delivering a healthy baby within eight weeks. I am going to print out a copy of the image for your records. Do you have any questions for me about your baby?”

Mr. and Mr. Redduck both replied, “No sir. Thank you, Dr. Smith.”

18

“Since there are no questions. I am going to schedule your last appointment for next month. The nurse will give you a date. You may go ahead and get dressed.”

“Okay, Dr. Smith. Thanks again.”

Dr. Smith, Kyle, and Mr. Redduck walk out of the exam room.

Mrs. Redduck places her clothes on and walks out the exam room to the nurse’s station area.

Nurse Kathy says, “Mrs. Redduck. Is June 26th, okay for your final appointment?”

“Yes. That is fine. Thank you.”

Nurse Kathy gives Mrs. Redduck a card with her next appointment date along with her ultrasound image of her baby. Then, the family leaves the doctor’s office.

The Talk (Where Do Babies Come From?)

Kyle and his father are sitting on the back porch playing a game of Go-Fish. Kyle starts to question his dad about where do babies come from?

21

“Dad, where did I come from? How did I get here?”

His dad pauses as he places his hand over his forehead. Then he says, “Son. You came from God. He made you and gave you to me and your mom.”

“Why did he give me to you and mom?”

“Because he is good, and we wanted a baby.”

“Did you see me on that machine, like we saw my sister in mom’s tummy?”

“We sure did.”

“How did I look?”

“You looked like your sister. But you were much bigger.”

“Did mom get a picture of me too?”

“I think she has it with your baby pictures. She will let you see it one day.”

“Cool. Are you and mom going to ask God for some more babies?”

“I do not know.”

“Does God ever run out of giving babies to moms?”

“No. He never runs out of anything.”

“Wow.”

22

“That’s right. He owns everything in the world.”

“I want to be near God one day. Where does he live?”

“Son. He lives in the heavens.”

“I heard about that place in bible school. Ms. Wilson said, “Heaven is way up in the sky. It is beautiful and you never get sick. You never have to worry about anything.” I hope I go there one day.”

“Kyle, we all will go there someday.”

Mrs. Redduck walks outside and brings lunch to Kyle and his father. She speaks to them.

“I brought you some sandwiches, chips, and lemonade.”

Both Kyle and his dad say, “Thank you.”

Mrs. Redduck sits down next to her husband and takes a sip of her lemonade.

“Mom. This lemonade is good.”

“Thank you, sweetheart. I’m glad you like it.”

“Mom. When my sister comes. Will you love her more than me?”

“I will love you both the same.”

“Will I have to share my toys with her?”

“Not unless you want too. But remember that sharing is a good thing to do, Kyle.”

23

Mrs. Redduck starts to have a sharp pain in her stomach area. The baby is moving. She takes breaths to relax herself. Then, the pain comes back again. She moans aloud because the pain is stronger.

Mr. Redduck rubs his wife’s shoulders and helps her with breathing exercises. The contractions become stronger and painful. Mr. Redduck says to Kyle, “Son go into the house and bring me the phone.”

Kyle runs into the house and brings the phone to his dad. His dad calls Dr. Smith’s office. Dr. Smith answers the phone.

“Hello. Dr. Smith. My wife is in pain. I think it may be time for her to deliver the baby. She is having contractions every five minute.”

“Mr. Redduck. Grab your things and meet me at the hospital.”

Mr. Redduck helps his wife into the car. He grabs her maternity clothing bag and tells Kyle to get in the car. He drives his family to the hospital.

24

Birth of Baby “Danielle”

Kyle and his parents arrive at the hospital. The nurse places Mrs. Redduck in a wheelchair and escorts her to her room. She is breathing hard and is having contractions. Mr. Redduck is coaching her with her breathing while holding her hand. Kyle must go to the nursery with a staff of the hospital. Mr. Redduck calls his parents and tell them to meet him at the hospital.

Dr. Smith arrives at the hospital. He examines Mrs. Redduck and prepares her for delivery. Mrs. Redduck is glad to see him. She has dilated ten centimeters. She is ready for delivery. She is yelling because of the pain. Dr. Smith tells her to take breaths and push.

Dr. Smith says, “Come on Mrs. Redduck. I need you to push hard, so we can get Danielle out. On the count of three. I want you to push. Okay.”

Mrs. Redduck nods her head. She says, “Okay.”

“One. Two. Three. Now push. Push, push, push! Now stop. I can see her head.”

Mrs. Redduck is crying and breathing hard.

“We almost have her here now. I need you to give me a big push. Do not stop until I tell you so. Alright, Mrs. Redduck.”

“Okay.”

25

Dr. Smith says, “On the count of three. I want you to push again. One. Two. Three. Push, push, push, push, push, and push. Stop! Once more on the count of three. I want you to push. One. Two. Three. Push, push, push, push. Stop! We got her. She is here. Welcome baby, “Danielle.”

Baby “Danielle” is born. She is crying as Dr. Smith picks her up and cuts the umbilical cord. Then, the nurse cleans her up and hands her to Mrs. Redduck. Mrs. Redduck and Mr. Redduck hold their newborn, as the nurse takes a picture of her.

26

“Congratulations to both of you. She is a beautiful little girl. She is healthy. You did great, Mrs. Redduck. I will be back, to check on you later.”

Mrs. Redduck and Mr. Redduck both say, “Thank you, Dr. Smith.”

Dr. Smith walks out the room. The nurse takes the baby to the nursery. She later comes back and escorts Mrs. Redduck to the recovery area.

While in the recovery area, Mr. Redduck’s parents have arrived at the hospital. The grandparents ask the nurse to bring the baby to them. Baby “Danielle” is back in the room. Grandma holds her in her arms, as she softly speaks to her.

27

Grandma said, “My baby. My sweet little angel. You look like your mama. You are so beautiful.”

Grandpa said, “Look at your grandma. She is already spoiling her grandchild.”

The nurse brings Kyle into the room to meet his sister. Kyle is excited and wants to hold his sister.

“Can I hold her, dad?”

“No, son. She is too heavy for you to hold. When you are older. You can hold her.”

Kyle sits down in a chair. He is sad that everyone has held his sister except him. He is jealous of his sister. He feels like he is not receiving any attention. The family is taking pictures of Baby “Danielle.”

Two hours pass and the nurse comes back. She takes Danielle to the nursery. Grandpa and Grandma hug Kyle, Mr., and Mrs. Redduck. Then, they leave.

Since, Kyle has summer camp in the morning and Mr. Redduck, must go to work. They leave Mrs. Redduck at the hospital and go home.

28

Baby “Danielle” Is Home

Mrs. Redduck is in the bathroom taking a shower while Kyle is watching cartoons in his room. Baby “Danielle” starts to cry while in her crib. Kyle is drinking a soda and walks into his mom’s bedroom. He sees his sister crying, so he looks for her bottle. He sees her bottle is empty in the crib. He picks up baby “Danielle” from the crib and sits on the floor. Danielle starts to cry louder. Kyle feeds her his soda, and Danielle stops crying.

29

“Now that’s a good girl. You must be hungry. I must take care of you. I’m your big brother.”

Mrs. Redduck steps out the shower. She places her clothes on and walks into her bedroom. She sees Kyle feeding Danielle soda on the floor.

“What are you doing with your sister? You cannot pick her up without an adult around. What are you feeding her? Give her to me. Do not ever do that again. Go to your room, Kyle.”

Kyle stands up and starts to cry. He runs back into his room.

Mrs. Redduck goes downstairs and warms up Danielle a bottle. After feeding Danielle, she knocks on Kyle’s bedroom door. She walks into his room and touches him on the shoulder.

“I’m sorry Kyle. I did not mean to make you cry. I just want to make sure nothing happens to Danielle. She is too big for you to pick up and hold. You could hurt her and yourself.”

Kyle wipes his eyes and says, “She was crying. She did not have any milk left in her bottle, so I gave her my soda. She stopped crying.”

“I know you were trying to help me. But your sister cannot have soda yet. She can only drink milk. I know you meant well. I did not mean to yell at you. You know I love you and Danielle so much. Why don’t you hold Danielle with me? And the next time, when she is hungry, you can help me feed her.”

Kyle has a smile on his face. He hugs his mom and says, “You mean it. I can feed her! Cool!”

30

Three hours later, Mr. Redduck arrives home. He is sitting on the bed with Kyle, Mrs. Redduck, and Danielle.

Kyle sits up on the bed. Mrs. Redduck places the bottle in Danielle’s mouth as Kyle feeds her.

“Thanks, mom, for letting me hold Danielle. I love you mom.”

“I love you too, Kyle.”
