An Important Newsflash!!

We interrupt "Little Red Leaf" to bring you an exclusive update:

Today, Rachel Deeming, author ordinaire, (the extra having melted away many months ago) celebrated with a large yawn. The cause of such heightened and reckless behaviour? Her writing a microfiction every day for the last 300 days: a Spartan amongst writers.

We were lucky enough to talk to the writer when a gap in her very busy schedule as "the person who does everything that is required of her for the people who ask it of her" materialised.

Our interviewer, Truly A'Lye, reports about Rachel's achievement below:

Rachel looked blearily at this interviewer and sighed.

"Well, it's not been easy," she said, taking a sip of tea and bite of biccie. There was a long pause as this interviewer waited for the author to elaborate. After much time elapsed, punctuated by loud munching, it was clear Rachel was not going to expand, very obviously devoting more time to her biscuit eating than to her interview technique.

She added as she reached for another, "Thank goodness for these little fellas."

"But surely," this interviewer persevered, "you must be proud of what you have achieved so far?"

Rachel smiled. "But of course. I mean, I love writing and I've enjoyed the process but...," and she looked contemplative as she said this, "it's been a ballache."

This interviewer asked her to expand:

"It's like everything, isn't it? Once you know that you have to do it, it sort of loses its charm, doesn't it?"

This interviewer loves her job and so, was somewhat perplexed by this response, although was starting to get an inkling of how interviewing could be less satisfying with the wrong people.

Undeterred, this interviewer chose to continue positively:

"Well, only 66 more to go! Do you have anything highly original in the pipeline?"

Rachel grimaced and said, "I hope so but there's no guarantee."

When asked about her reticence, Rachel replied, "I'm saving my words...in case they run out."

Shortly after, this interviewer left, wishing Rachel well, biscuit crumbs sticking to her shoes.

Truly hopes that L.C. and Gerard, other authors partaking in the microfiction challenge alongside poet D.J. Reddall, are considerably less jaded.

I can barely believe that I have made it to this stage and my biscuit consumption has been major but I'm still here along with my compadres and so it continues, to the final sprint. Or crawl. Or collapse.

I'm going away for the weekend (again!), hence the influx of stories to take you up with "The Little Red Leaf" novella until Tuesday when I return. Looking forward to reading your comments on my return.
