An Actress Forgets Her Lines
A micro-fiction
The actress stared into the distance, unable to speak. All traces of the character had fallen away. She stood there frozen, mouth agape, drenched in sweat. The words had vanished from her mind, replaced by fear, doubt, and self flagellation.
The spotlight burned. The audience leaned forward expectantly while the seconds ticked by. Judgmental whispers turned to hushed concern.
Humiliation coursed through her body like poison, shutting down essential organs. The silence was murder, the audience its unwitting accomplice.
