There weren't always dragons in the Valley, so it came as quite a surprise to people when they arrived. It had been Old Man Thomas from down the round who had discovered them. The poor bugger almost had a heart attack seeing the gigantic creatures making a home, in what had previously been, an abandoned farmland. The panic that had ensued when Old Man Thomas came stumbling into the village, almost getting knocked down by the postman's van.

Of course, we all laughed at him at first, the thought of dragons existing was absurd. Thinking back it was rather unfair how we all treated him. There had been shouts of madness, people asking if he was off his meds.

We took pity on his hysterical ramblings and sent PC Alvin Mole to "investigate" if anything to try and calm the old fool. Things got a little more serious when they returned, Old Man Thomas yelling 'I told you so' to a very pale and shell-shocked Alvin.

Now curious and slightly fearful, the village banded together to go and see these "dragons" for ourselves. The walk down to the valley was always a popular one. Struggling up the hill was made bearable by a beautiful scenic view of the whole town, fields of grass and crops making up the rest of the view. On sunny summer days, like that day, the silence was only broken by animals in the surrounding farms.

Having made it up the hill, everyone in the village discussing what we were about to see, we finally saw what the old man had been talking about. Looking down into the vast valley were three ginormous dragons. One, red with black markings was curled up asleep, while the other two; an emerald green one, and a black one, roaming around, occasionally stopping to sniff the air.

At first, none of us knew what to do, not daring to move or make a sound. It was only when the black dragon looked in our direction that we ran screaming, a thunder-like roar echoing around us. Hearts pounding and fear at an all-time high, we quickly banded together, grabbing whatever tools or weapons we had available to defend ourselves. Only nothing happened. We all braced ourselves, anticipating the winged monsters to descend on us at any moment. That time never came.

Days had passed with no attack. Old Man Thomas made a point of keeping watch, venturing up the hill to see what they were doing. All that ever changed was a large cavern they created. Over time we started to accept that they may not have meant us any harm.

That was true, up until three after they had been discovered. We'd all gotten used to their presence. There was the occasional flinch when one of the dragons would roar, yet nothing happened. Then came a sound none of us will ever forget. It was louder than thunder, a deep sickening roar that rumbled through the streets, shattering windows. We all rushed towards the mountains, dreading what we might see. The three dragons were there, only the red and black one was now laying their lifeless, it's head a few meters away. Some in the crowd started to cry out, others ran back down the hill. Myself and a few others could only question what had happened.

Everyone fell silent as the green dragon raised it's head, it's gaze settled on us. We were all gripped by an intense dread, sensing the dragon's thoughts. The green and red dragon suddenly took flight, rising high into the clouds. The valley was filled with a deathly silence, none of us even daring to breathe as we stared at the sky. As the first monstrous roar ripped through the silence we knew what was to come.

The town I grew up in no longer exists; the buildings and it's residents burnt to ash. I'm always questioning how I got out. The dragon's wrath has still not been quelled, their rampage now spreading south towards London. There is something that tells me there is a way to stopping them. Something that had also caused all this. It now means I need to return to the ruins of my hometown or risk watching the rest of the world burn...
