“That bastard!” shrieked Lucille. “My parents are truly insane if they think that I’m going to go through with this! I will not marry Lord Duskenhall no matter what anyone says!"

Nicolai held his arms outstretched as he waited for Lucille to embrace him. Moments later, she did. It took several more minutes before she finally calmed down. Lucille wrapped her arms tighter around Nicolai. She always felt safe in his embrace. There was something very calming about his aura that Lucille could not quite put her finger on. As she buried her head into his chest, Lucille inhaled his scent: pine and some other mysterious scent that she couldn’t pinpoint.

“What did he say this time?”

Nicolai refused to say his name, but Lucille knew to whom he was referring. Lifting her head up, Lucille looked up into his eyes. Concern filled them and Lucille hesitated. She did not want to tell him but she knew that trying to hide it would not work either. He would only persist until the truth came out anyway. Taking a deep breath, Lucille braced herself.

“It wasn’t what he said, it was what he did,” replied Lucille. “We took a stroll together around the town to get better acquainted. He kept leering at other women as we passed them by. He even tried to grope one of them!”

“What happened next?”

“I called him out on it. Told him that was no way to behave when out with someone else. His response was that I was just jealous because I don’t have anything for him to grab onto.”

It was at that point that Lucille saw Nicolai’s face contort with rage. For the first time, Lucille thought that he looked the part of the dangerous vampire. His fangs were fully bared. His dark eyes glowed with ferocity. Even his normally peaceful aura shifted to a malevolent glow.

“That man is a fool!” snarled Nicolai.

“It gets better,” continued Lucille, bitterly. “After our walk, the idiot tried to seduce me. Claimed that he wanted me to learn how to please him before our wedding night. He said he didn't want to waste our special night teaching me the ropes.”

Nicolai growled low in his throat. Lucille noticed his hands clenching and unclenching at his sides.

“I’ll kill him!” snarled Nicolai, looking murderous. “How can your parents be so blind? You deserve better than that man! How dare he treat you like that!”

“Unfortunately, killing him won’t solve anything,” replied Lucille, trying to calm Nicolai down.

Nicolai fixed Lucille with a very intense stare. His fists were clenched so tightly that she could see the knuckles turning white.

“Did he… succeed?”

“No,” said Lucille, shaking her head. Nicolai relaxed a little. “I kicked him in his most sensitive bits and ran.”

Nicolai chuckled. A genuine smile spread on her face as Lucille watched him. She loved the way his dimples showed when he laughed. Even his eyes, which were as dark as ink, appeared two shades lighter. She wished that expression could stay on his face forever. It was her favorite.

“I bet that your parents were upset.”

“Yeah, they were furious. They forbade me from my nighttime strolls, but I snuck out.” Lucille edged closer to Nicolai. “I had to see you.”

Nicolai grinned. He brushed his lips against hers. It wasn’t long before Nicolai slipped his tongue into Lucille’s mouth, caressing it onto hers. Lucille issued a soft moan as she felt her lover’s hands roam the contours of her body.

After they had made love, it was time for Lucille to leave. Sunrise would be arriving soon. Nicolai needed to find shelter before it came. They shared a final kiss before departing. As Lucille made her way back to her village, she found herself in a much better mood.
