#2 SWEET STORY

The Kindhearted Lion and the Hungry Mosquito; The Crocodile and the Toothpick Bird

By Franz·CabotPublished 2 days ago 2 min read

Once upon a time, in a dense forest, there lived a kindhearted lion known for his gentle nature. One sweltering afternoon, a famished mosquito, having gone without sustenance for an entire day, found itself on the brink of collapse. Desperate for nourishment, it alighted on a resting spot, unaware that it had landed on the majestic mane of the very lion whose kindness was legendary throughout the jungle.

The mosquito, oblivious to its precarious position, sank its proboscis into the lion's flesh, drawing forth a rich crimson feast. As life-giving blood filled its belly, the mosquito finally turned to see the formidable gaze of the lion upon it. A shiver of terror coursed through the tiny insect as it realized its grave mistake.

"I beg your forgiveness, noble lion!" cried the mosquito, trembling. "My hunger blinded me, and I did not see where I was landing. Spare my life, I implore you!"

To the mosquito's utter astonishment, the lion responded with a warm smile. "Fear not, little one," he rumbled softly. "If you have not yet sated your hunger, please, continue."

The mosquito could scarcely believe its luck. A fierce predator, renowned for his strength and prowess, offering his own blood to a mere mosquito? It was unheard of. Yet, the lion's benevolence was genuine, and the news of this extraordinary act spread like wildfire through the forest.

The following day, the entire animal kingdom whispered about the lion's kindness, and many were too intimidated to approach him. However, the kindhearted lion extended invitations to all, welcoming them into his home with open arms. He served them delectable cakes, and the animals soon discovered that beneath his powerful exterior lay a heart as tender as any they had ever known.

In another part of the forest, a young crocodile cherished a unique friendship with a toothpick bird. The crocodile, hindered by short limbs and an expansive jaw, struggled to maintain dental hygiene. Fortunately, the toothpick bird was renowned for its expertise in oral care, and each day, it would fly fearlessly into the crocodile's cavernous mouth to cleanse his teeth. In return, the crocodile would reserve a morsel of succulent meat between his teeth, a token of gratitude for his friend.

But discord arose when the toothpick bird ceased its daily visits, leaving the crocodile feeling abandoned. Despite their quarrel, the crocodile's heart remained generous, and he continued to hide pieces of meat within his teeth, hoping the toothpick bird would return.

Days passed, and the toothpick bird yearned for reconciliation but pride held it back. Meanwhile, the crocodile's teeth began to ache from neglect and the uneaten meat decaying within. A frantic messenger, a talkative magpie, brought news of the crocodile's plight to the toothpick bird.

With a heavy heart, the toothpick bird flew to the crocodile, tears welling up as it beheld the extent of the damage. In every crevice of the crocodile's teeth lay forgotten offerings of love, now rotting and causing great pain. The toothpick bird set to work, cleaning and healing the wounds, while the crocodile looked on with grateful eyes, their bond stronger than ever before.

And so, in the heart of the forest, tales of the kindhearted lion and the reconciled friends, the crocodile and the toothpick bird, served as reminders of the power of compassion and the enduring strength of true friendship.
