The Role of a Surrogate’s Husband: Geremi’s Story
Published: June 12, 2025

As Told by Whitney and Geremi, ConceiveAbilities Surrogate and Her Husband
A surrogate’s husband or partner can play an important role throughout the surrogacy journey—from supporting the decision to become a surrogate to attending appointments, helping with injections and navigating the emotional highs and lows of pregnancy.
What Is the Role of a Surrogate’s Husband or Partner?
Behind every surrogate is a support system that helps make the journey possible. For Whitney, that person was her husband, Geremi — a devoted father, military member, and steadfast partner who supported her every step of the way.
From IVF appointments and injections to meeting the intended parents and witnessing the birth, Geremi embraced his role in Whitney’s surrogacy journey. We sat down with him to talk about what it’s really like to be the husband of a surrogate.

Talking To Her Husband About Becoming a Surrogate
After struggling to conceive and experiencing the heartbreak of miscarriage, Whitney and Geremi welcomed two beautiful children. But instead of closing that chapter, Whitney felt compelled to do more. She had textbook pregnancies and couldn’t shake the thought: “What if I could help someone else become a parent?”
His response? Pure support. “I’m not in the business of telling you what to do with your body. As long as you’re safe.”
Supporting a Partner Through Surrogacy
That level of respect and support became a theme throughout the entire journey. Geremi wasn’t just a passive bystander — he showed up fully, in every way that mattered.
Whether it was administering injections during surrogate IVF process, attending medical appointments, or flying to the intended parents’ fertility clinic for screenings, Geremi was there. Not always in the spotlight, not needing credit, but ever-present. When asked what the spouse of a surrogate should do, his answer was humble: “Just support. Be there. Be positive.”
Some people might think that if you’re not the one carrying the baby, you’re along for the ride. Geremi would be the first to disagree.
When the couple met their intended parents, Geremi’s priority was simple: “I was there to introduce myself and let them know that their child was going to be safe. That was my biggest priority — to let them know she was going to be nurtured in a safe environment.”
And when the moment finally came — the birth of a baby girl for the intended parents — it hit Geremi hard. “I looked over and saw the look on the intended father’s face and I got emotional. As a father, I knew what this new dad was feeling meeting his baby for the first time. It was very, very special.”

What Geremi Wants Other Surrogate Partners to Know
As a military husband and father, Geremi understands what it means to serve — not just his country, but his family. And this experience deepened that perspective.
“There’s always an avenue to help somebody. Whether it’s big or small — there’s always a way,” Geremi said. “I never thought it would actually affect me and my life directly. It was just an amazing process. It really was.”
To other military spouses whose partners may be considering surrogacy, Geremi’s advice is practical and heartfelt: “Do your research. Be active. Don’t just sit back and let your wife go through it alone. Support comes in many forms, and just being present can mean everything.”
Geremi doesn’t see himself as the hero of this story. He even laughed during the interview, saying, “It’s kind of wild you’re asking for my opinion — I did absolutely nothing.” But we know that’s not true.
Behind every incredible surrogate is often a partner who gives their full support, their time, their energy, and their heart.
That’s why this Father’s Day, we honor Geremi and all dads who understand that fatherhood isn’t just about biology — it’s about showing up. About celebrating family. About backing your partner when she’s driven to do something remarkable.
Happy Father’s Day, Geremi and to all dads out there. We are in awe seeing your love in action.
