Father Value
Family structures can be connected to the idea of a family tree. The structure is based upon who had breed together to create the family that exists as a whole and tends to continue to grow. Family structures can also be defined by the roles or power each individual has in the lineage. Normally the Grandmother and her husband hold the highest power that gets passed down to their children, eldest to youngest, and they pass it down to their children. I’ve learned hierarchy proves nothing other than age being increased, in my opinion of the black families. Much like other populations, we tend to suffer from single-parent households and poverty. I plan to discuss the findings of Patricia Thomas of Duke University on the effects of father presence in black homes.

The Growing Space Between Us. Top Story - August 2022.
The event I had anticipated all summer arrived — college freshman move-in day. The car was so tightly packed that it took three of us pushing and tugging to get the pillow into the last potential space between the two duffle bags. With the final item secured, our family high-fived as we closed the trunk, proud of fitting all the essential dorm items into one car.

Helpful Hints For New Mothers
By: Marlene Affeld • Ask for help. Being a new mom is tough. Don’t ask too much of yourself. It is so hard to try your best when you are tired all the time. You may wish to appear as a superwoman, but we can all use a little help now and then. When family and friends volunteer to give you a hand by cooking a meal, doing the laundry, running an errand, or watching the baby so you can rest for a bit, thank them for their kindness with gratitude and a smile. It doesn’t hurt to accept encouragement and a helping hand. Return the favor later when you are not so busy.

The Infamous Nap
The grown up woman sat at her birth mother's dining room table with her birth mother and her mother's neighbor. She had not come here to see her mother. She came to see her little brother and her step father. Seeing her mother was the price she paid to see them. They were out in the back yard playing with her two small children and her husband was loading up the van so they could head for home.

Growing up, I always thought of you as the perfect grandmother. There had never been a moment where I didn't want to spend the night at your house; even when you lived thousands of miles away. It had gotten so bad, that I actually would keep toys and clothes at your house because I knew I'd be back for them at the end of the day. I would even make an imprint on your own belongings for me to come back to later on (just like how I'd write thousands of stories on this old laptop you have; so that I can see how my writing style changed throughout the year).
