Sweet dreams

Nothing but a dream

The little face looks desperately wanting a hug to bed. The eery sounds from the television and the blood smeared on the faces on the screen made his poor soul feel helpless despite trying to show his bravery. He shut his eyes tight pretending to sleep, but his tiny body was wide awake. He couldn’t keep up much longer.

“Mommy… will you be able to turn off the light, it disturbs my sleep.” He said softly, hoping his dad wouldn’t hear a word he uttered. His first word itself triggered the father. He paused the tv and frowned at the little one. “If you want to sleep, this is not the place. Go to your own room!” He shouted. His mother was silent, trying her best to support the Parent’s Team. Deep in her thoughts she wished the boy could stay a little longer. But the decision was already made. The little one had to leave their room letting the parents have their own space. He hugged the two pillows and somehow dragged the bedsheet which he brought to build the castle on his parents’ bed. He got down and walked towards the door, the tiny hands were too weak to carry them all, with all his effort, he tried to pull the door open. At this time the mother couldn’t bare to see him leaving alone. She desperately looked at the husband who’s glued to the tv series. Moments after the little one went back to his room, she too came out with a false thirst to quench. She slowly opened the half closed door of the little one’s bedroom. The little eyes sparkled in the dark. “Can you stay for sometime till I fall asleep mommy?” The pleading of the little voice was too irresistible. “Alright, but not for long. You should listen to your father and be brave enough to sleep alone.” She thought her words were logical enough to hide her helplessness. “I promise mommy. This will be the last time.” She lied down beside the tired soul and he gave soft kisses to show his gratitude.

Minutes passed by and she could hear footsteps reaching towards the room. The door opened violently. “What’s wrong with you? Are you trying to ruin our kid?” The voice burning with anger echoed through the room. Neither the child nor his mother had a choice. The dreams would have been ‘sweeter’ if the eyes were dozed off before the door was opened.

The dutiful wife went back to the room to accompany her ‘lonely’ husband. “You left the room with thirst and ended up cuddling him? Is that how you blacklist me in front of the kid?” His face was dark with disappointment. “ Now stop staring at the phone and watch this with me.” Viewing slaughter, violence and anger were the last things she wanted after a tiring day. She reluctantly agreed, but reluctance was buried deep inside her. She smiled, sat on the couch near him. Her eyes were faced towards the tv but the mind was in the next room where she left.

“I’m bored to watch this alone. So just to stay here with me.” She turned towards him, his eyes was gazing at her with a hope of comfort. He kept his head on her shoulder and exhaled. It is then she realized that she has two souls in the house; one whom she gave birth to and another one who is being given a second life after marriage. The mind which was stuck in the darkness returned to the light. The inner child of the grown man is what is to be pampered first before jealousy overcomes the happiness of the other…
