In life, every thread is interwoven with triumph, despair, love, and loss.

My mother's story is vibrant with the enduring spirit of womanhood. It's an honor that honors her and is a universal homage to every woman who has dared to light a path in the shadows.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On November 11, 2022, the fabric of our family was altered irrevocably.

My father, the cornerstone of our existence, passed away, leaving a void that seemed impossible. In the wake of this loss, my mother, a woman of extraordinary strength and grace, assumed the dual mantle of both mother and father. Since then, she has been remarkable—a resilience that has illuminated the way for our family, casting both shadows and light.

As the seasons changed, so too did the fabric of our lives.

Holidays...

Birthdays..and

Anniversaries unfolded in his absence, each event filling the void left behind. Yet, in every moment of sorrow, my mother's resilience shone through, her strength guiding us forward. She filled our home with new memories. Each had threads of joy and sorrow. They made a space that honored the past and future.

My mother taught us that grief, while a relentless companion, could also catalyze growth. She showed us how to find beauty in the brokenness and to seek out moments of joy in the pain. Her ability to balance the weight of her loss with the responsibilities of parenthood was nothing short of heroic. She became our protector and our best teacher. She taught us courage, perseverance, and the lasting power of love.

We learned to rely on each other. We found comfort in shared memories and healing together. My mother's love was a constant presence. It became the glue that held us together. It was her strength and the resilience in us all.

My mother's legacy is dual, representing the shadow of loss and the light of love and resilience. The shadows are not merely a symbol of grief but of my parents' love. In every shadow she casts, there is a sense of loss, but more importantly, there is evidence of love, so its absence leaves a tangible darkness.

Conversely, the paths of light my mother lights are those of resilience, hope, and the enduring power of love. They are paths carved with the strength of a woman who, despite her grief, has been a pillar of support, a guiding light for her children, and a symbol of hope for many who know her.

The Year of the Dragon, 2024, holds significant symbolism in our story.

The dragon symbolizes strength, luck, and new beginnings in Chinese culture. It is fitting that we celebrate my mother's legacy this year, as it represents a rebirth of sorts for our family—a transition from the depths of despair to the heights of hope and resilience.

Much like the mythical dragon, my mother has shown an incredible ability to rise from the ashes of our collective grief, forging a new path forward for us all. She exemplifies the strength inherent in womanhood—a woman's capability to face adversity and emerge stronger, lighting the way for others.

The legacy my mother is creating is not just for our family but also future generations. Her story is empowering, showing that it is possible to continue, care for, and conquer life's challenges, even in the face of insurmountable loss.

This International Women's Day, as we honor the extraordinary women in our lives, my mother stands out as a paragon of strength, love, and resilience. Her dual legacy of casting shadows and lighting paths is a powerful part of womanhood—the simultaneous capacity to grieve and love fiercely, face darkness, and yet be a light source.
