Both girls face similar challenges after losing their mothers; however, each develops a different coping mechanism based on their own personalities.

Ren is more confident and outgoing, so he's more willing to open up about his feelings. He carries around a notebook with him at all times where he keeps track of his thoughts, emotions and how they're related to gelato flavors—a habit that started when he was younger because it helped him feel connected to his mother who loved making gelato in their family business together (every time she made a new flavor he would give it a name).
