International Women's Day 2022

International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the historical, cultural, and political achievements of women. This day is observed from Iceland to Pakistan, in support of working towards gender inequality around the world. We all know the world couldn't run without women; wouldn't want it to either!

International Women's Day 8 March 2022

It's important to take time out not just on IWD but everyday to stop and appreciate everything your wife/girlfriend/daughter has done for you and all that she does on a daily basis. Don't forget to send her some flowers as well (plants are better for the environment anyway).

You can make sure your girlfriend knows how much she means to you by offering to do tasks that she always seems to put off such as cleaning out her car or giving it an oil change—who knows, you could end up with a night away together while the car gets looked after!

What is International Women's Day and why is it celebrated?

Susan B. Anthony was a political activist and an advocate for women’s rights. "She did not like to call herself a reformer," she said, "because that term seemed too limited; she felt that there needed to be more basic changes in politics, law and other institutions of American society."

In 1869, Susan B. Anthony co-founded the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA) which was dedicated toward securing equal rights for women both politically and socially. In 1920, after nearly 50 years of struggle, the NWSA achieved their goal with ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution giving women over 21 the right to vote.

In the early 1900s, women were not being treated equally. They did not have the right to vote and frequently were subjected to unfair pay in the work place. As a result of this mistreatment, numerous women marched through New York City in 1908 to demand their rights. Prior to that, in 1909, there was an observed celebration in which they declared February as National Women’s Day. This holiday fell on the last Sunday of the month from 1909 till 1913 when it later switched to the last Friday of March and finally settled on the last Saturday of October we know today.

International Women's Day 2022 campaign theme: #BreakTheBias

International Women’s Day inspires people to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women throughout history. It makes it possible for us to honor and provide some perspective as we continue striving for a world where every woman can reach her potential.

Our tagline for this year’s campaign is ‘BreakTheBias’ and it seeks to fight all forms of discrimination against women and girls around the world. Bias that could be due to their gender, racial backgrounds, age or any other factor shouldn’t be tolerated.

It is important that we take this day to celebrate all women and girls who continue to make a huge difference in their communities and countries around the world.

In recent years, there has been an increase in women not only rising to prominent leadership roles but also becoming heads of their own businesses and companies. However, the inequalities between men and women still exist because even though more females have become leaders, there are still a lot of traditionally male-oriented occupations and positions that are completely dominated by males.

#BreakTheBias

Together, we can all fight bias

Don’t contribute to society’s divisive discourse and perpetuate the bias.

It’s time for a change. Onwards towards unity! Let’s work towards the future where all are welcomed & heard.

#BreakTheBias

It’s time to stop the bias and speak up!

Break the bias of what you think is right and wrong. Open up your mind to take in all perspectives. To truly understand and empathize.

#BreakTheBias

Despite being aware of this issue, a lot of women are unable to progress within their careers. This is because these biases make it difficult for them to demonstrate their capabilities. One way to address this issue is not only knowing about it but also taking action in order to guarantee a fair playing field.
