Infidelity isn’t always obvious. Sometimes, it’s hidden in the most ordinary moments...
The daily cheaters check-ins, the calls that seem caring, the questions that make you feel loved.
Sadly, I learned this the hard way.
For eight years, I was married to an American man while I, a Colombian woman, built a life with him. We had a beautiful 3-year-old son together, and I believed we were solid. I felt secure in our marriage. I trusted him completely.
But looking back, there were subtle signs of infidelity that I failed to recognize at the time.
The "Loving" Check-Ins That Were Really About Avoiding Me
For years, my husband had a habit of calling me throughout the day.
💬 “Hey, where are you?”
💬 “What are you up to?”
💬 “When do you think you’ll be home?”
It felt normal, even affectionate. I thought he was simply checking in because he cared.
He rarely liked going out with me and our son—he never wanted to join us at the park or anywhere else we went. Still, I didn’t question it. He wasn’t a very outgoing person, and I figured that was just his personality.
I had no idea that these phone calls weren’t about love or concern. They were about tracking my movements—making sure I wasn’t somewhere I could catch him in a lie.
The Day the Truth Came Crashing Down
For years, I never suspected a thing. He checked in with me daily, we went about our routine, and I assumed everything was fine.
Then, one morning, everything changed.
He sat me down, looked me in the eyes, and said words that shattered my world:
💔 “I’ve been having an affair.”
💔 “It’s been going on for a while.”
💔 “She’s pregnant.”
I couldn’t breathe. My mind raced, trying to piece together the past years of my life.
Connecting the Dots: The Lies Were in Plain Sight
Suddenly, everything clicked. I came across an article written by a guy named Patrick Hinchy that said something like "their checking is one of the biggest red flags of all". I visited his channel on YouTube and got very familiarized with how cheaters work (Ha! because cheaters cheat in many ways and we are always so innocent and never read the signs) :-(
• His calls weren’t out of love—they were to make sure I wasn’t somewhere that would interfere with his secret life.
• He asked about my schedule not because he cared, but to avoid being caught.
• He distanced himself from outings with our son not because he didn’t like going out, but because he had someone else.
I had been so naïve, so trusting. And that’s what hurt the most. I had never even considered that he could be cheating on me.
Lessons I Learned the Hard Way
Looking back, I wish I had recognized the signs sooner.
🚩 Frequent check-ins can sometimes be a red flag.
🚩 Not wanting to go out with family can be a sign of emotional distance.
🚩 Blind trust can be dangerous when you ignore your instincts.
It wasn’t my fault—I was a good wife, a good mother. But I now know that cheaters are often good at hiding the truth in plain sight.
If You’re Seeing the Signs, Pay Attention
If your partner is constantly calling to check in, but something feels off, don’t dismiss it.

Not every partner who checks in frequently is cheating—but if their behavior feels more about controlling your location than showing affection, it may be time to take a closer look.
My story isn’t unique. Many people don’t realize they are being deceived until it’s too late.
Trust your gut. Don’t ignore your instincts. And never assume that just because they check in, they’re being faithful.
💔 Have you ever experienced something similar? would love to hear from you as my story did not stop there... the baby was born and more to come...
