The beautiful island of Bali in Indonesia would offer much that would draw the interest of the discerning visitor. Here, you would encounter picturesque natural beauty including, stunning landscapes, ancient temples and a fascinating culture. To make the most of your visit, you would have to leave the well-known tourist localities behind and explore more far-flung areas of the island. To help you on your adventures, these are some suggestions for getting around Bali effectively.

By scooter or motorbike

The obvious way for foreign visitors to get around Bali would be by renting a scooter and driving it yourself. There would be many establishments on the island involved in renting scooters; you may compare prices and avail yourself of an attractive deal. However, you could be ticketed by the local police if you fail to present an International Driving Permit. You should keep in mind that the local driving styles could be rather different from those in your native country; accordingly, you should always drive carefully and follow the flow of traffic. It would be important to understand the manner in which the locals drive and manoeuvre your own scooter accordingly. Take care to always wear a helmet and don sunglasses to protect your eyes from insects and debris too.

By Gojek or Grab

Another good way to get about Bali would be by using the scooter taxi services provided by companies like Grab and Gojek. Should you desire to use these services during your visit, it would be advisable to have the apps set up on your smartphone before boarding your flight; keep in mind you would need SMS verification to use both of these services. By using these apps, it would be possible to obtain a scooter pickup which would arrive at your desired location. Additionally, it would also be possible to order a car using Grab or Gojek if you so desire, just as you would use Uber in some other countries.

By taxi

Using local taxis would be another option to consider for getting around Bali. In fact, there would be a multitude of taxis operating on this island and it should be very easy to avail yourself of one. However, you should be aware that there could be some taxi drivers who would sometimes attempt to overcharge foreign visitors; accordingly, it would be a good idea to do some research and ascertain roughly how much your expected taxi journey should cost. In this way, you would know the price that you should try to arrive at by haggling before the journey begins. A choice of accommodation to consider which you could easily reach by taxi from the airport and key destinations would be Nirjhara where you would have the opportunity to stay at a treehouse villa in Bali

By car with a driver

Another appealing transport option would be availing yourself of a rented car with a driver. In this way, you could explore Bali at your leisure with a driver who is familiar with the local conditions. In this regard, you could find a driver by asking a person that you trust for a recommendation or perhaps contacting a driver that you have met through a service like Gojek. By hiring your own driver, you could also establish a rapport with a Balinese local and develop a personal connection as well.

By shuttle bus

You may find that it would be possible to use the shuttle bus services that travel between some towns in Bali. However, to find out about these services you may have to visit the towns and take a look around. You would find that some of the stalls offering activities and tours would also operate shuttles; you may notice a price list and schedules amongst the various posters of waterfalls and temples.
