How Many Babies Is Too Many?

Kittens, puppies and human

Back in May my boyfriend and I had a surprise positive pregnancy test. We have two amazing kids already. They took the news really well which was also surprising. They are 13 and 9 and didn’t think they’d ever have another sibling but liked the idea too. We had them young and before I had any problems. Recently I had a health issue and was told if I ever did get pregnant again I’d have to have shots throughout the pregnancy. I’m not a needle person so I said well that’s not gonna happen then. I remember that saying about god laughing at peoples plans. He must of had a good chuckle that day.

We live in the country and have stray cats that show up all the time. We have two outside cats that are actually our cats but we can’t feed just them and not the others. This often means we get pregnant stray cats or they get pregnant here. We’ve had three sets of kittens this summer and only one of the moms actually let them stay around us and love them. Usually the strays just use us for our food and won’t accept our love. The kittens are absolutely adorable and loving. They’re actually too loving, we’re constantly having to distract them by the house so we can run to our cars when we have to leave. We’re still trying to find homes for them though. That’s always hard to do. Especially when you want them to go to good ones since we love them so much.

Ok so we have kittens and a baby coming this October, so naturally what do you think happens this Labor Day weekend. Surprise puppies! Yes surprise. Our 13 year old was in shock saying “nobody told me she was going to have puppies!” Well she didn’t tell us either! We were kind of questioning it from how she was looking but didn’t think it was for real. Miami (Mom) is a 9 year old that absolutely hates my dog Onyx’s guts. Ever since he was a puppy and we brought him home she has not been a fan of him. We’ve had to keep them separate from one another all these years so we really didn’t think it happened but it did. Miami had seven puppies Saturday night and Sunday morning. I thought she was done after three because she went outside and ran around a bit but had a few more. Unfortunately where she was wasn’t quite big enough and we lost one from her laying on it but the rest are doing well! The 13 year old made a PowerPoint presentation on why we should keep a puppy after just one day of having them. She will most likely win that battle.

Finding homes for these puppies will probably also be hard. Mom is a pit bull and dad is a cane corso. I’m hoping with them growing up with cats, rabbit, chickens, kids and a baby they will be used to everything and easier for people to bring home. I’m sure they’re going to be extra socialized too with all our friends wanting some puppy play time. Especially my kids and their friends.

I just can’t believe the amount of babies this house is going to have this fall. It’s surely going to be pure chaos and madness but we’ll enjoy every second of it. I’m sure we’ll have days of what the heck is going on right now but we’ll get through it and have great memories of this crazy thing we call life. Plus there’s always wine and a closet to sneak off to if need be right?
