Most mothers never learned to be Selfish. It’s like giving of ourselves twenty-four hours per day and three hundred and sixty-five or three hundred and sixty-six days per year is implanted in our DNA with Sacrifices. — Annelise Lords

Google says:

Being selfish is not inherently bad, as it often means setting boundaries, prioritizing self-care, and maintaining mental health. While extreme, harmful selfishness is negative, a “healthy selfishness” is crucial to avoid burnout and ensure you have energy to care for yourself and others.

Why can’t some of us Mothers be selfish just to save ourselves? Our creator will understand. But humans won’t. To many mothers, being selfish seems cruel when it comes to their children. Society penalizes and punishes us if we dare to put ourselves first. Unaware that life often pushes us into the place we must be, so we can be there for them when they need us, and sometimes selfishness is the best tool that will save these children.

The self-care rules are different for mothers. Everyone first. Themselves, last.

But still, many mothers can’t, unaware that they might be saving themselves by being selfish. Many mothers are unaware that, to be there for their children, they sometimes must be selfish. Selfishness can be a tool or a weapon. It’s how it’s used that will heal or help, or hinder and harm. Mothers use it to heal and help their children. While sometimes hindering and harming themselves, unaware.

Most mothers don’t give their children material gifts. Not because of poverty, but because of the kind of selfless love the Earth gives to humans. They give them an Earth gift. They give to their children like the earth gives to humanity every day.

Think about what humans have gotten from the earth since the dawn of time.

What if just one day, one day of the more than three hundred and sixty days, mothers can just be selfish? Being selfish in this case for mothers would be refueling, reenergizing, reinvigorating, refocusing, and relaxing. To come back stronger, wiser, more patient, more understanding, more loving, with more tools to heal and help our generation.

We are not greedy; one day to focus on us isn’t enough, but our involuntary selfish actions, choices, decisions, and intentions, along with the love for our children, will make it work. One day to focus on us and our value to humanity. One day, for our loved ones to remember and appreciate our value and the contributions we make to their lives.

Today, be Selfish Mothers, to love and strengthen yourself so you can be around for your generation. For us mothers, selfishness isn’t a weapon. It’s a tool that will allow our generation to continue making our world a better place through a mother’s love. Annelise Lords

Keep your love for you today. It’s only for one day. Revel in that selfish self-love you have for yourself today. Hold on to that love, because tomorrow you will have to share it. Tomorrow, it no longer belongs to you.

Happy Selfish Mother’s Day, Mothers.
