Grandfather's Love

The Power of Love and Intention

By Dominique AlcantaraPublished about a month ago 3 min read

My grandfather, though not by blood, has been driving a tricycle for over 30 years. His dedication to his work and family has made him an inspiration in my life. He came into our lives when my mom's real father left, and from that day on, he became the anchor that held our family together.

Every morning, before the sun rises, he prepares his tricycle for the day ahead. The streets are quiet, and the air is cool. He wipes down his tricycle, checking the tires and making sure everything is in order. This routine has been a part of his life for as long as I can remember. He drives through the bustling streets, picking up passengers, greeting everyone with a warm smile. His passengers are not just customers; they are friends and neighbors who rely on him.

When my mom and her sister were young, they and my grandmother struggled to make ends meet. My grandfather stepped in without hesitation. He made sure my mom and her sister had what they needed for school and provided for my grandmother. He didn't just provide financially; he was there emotionally, supporting them through tough times. He attended my mom's school events, cheered her on at every milestone, and ensured she never felt the absence of her real father.

As time passed, my grandparents had two more children—a son and a daughter. They grew up in the same loving environment my grandfather created for my mom and her sister. Despite the additional responsibilities, he continued to care for my grandmother and the entire family. Even now, in his old age, he tends to my grandmother with the same love and dedication. He makes sure she takes her medicine on time, cooks for her, and keeps her company. His love for her is evident in everything he does, and it shows in her eyes whenever she talks about him.

His work as a tricycle driver has not been easy. There were times when money was tight, and the days were long. But he never complained. Instead, he took pride in his work, knowing that every ride he gave helped support his family. His strength and resilience taught me the value of hard work and dedication.

Growing up, I watched him juggle his responsibilities with grace and humility. He was always there for me, just as he was for my mom, her sister, my uncle, and my aunt. He taught me how to ride a bike, helped me with my homework, and listened to my dreams. His advice was simple yet profound: "Love and intention are all you need." He believed that true family is not defined by blood but by the love and care we show each other.

One of my favorite memories is of the times we spent together on weekends. He would take me on rides around the neighborhood in his tricycle. We would explore new places, meet new people, and share stories. Those moments were filled with laughter and joy, and they made me realize how blessed I am to have him in my life.

My grandfather's story is a testament to the power of love and intention. He didn't have to step into the role of a father or caregiver, but he did so willingly and with an open heart. His actions have left a lasting impact on our family. He showed me that true love knows no boundaries and that you don't need to be related by blood to be a family.

His dedication to my grandmother is a constant reminder of what it means to love selflessly. Even as he ages, his spirit remains strong. He wakes up every day with the same determination and commitment to his family. He continues to drive his tricycle, not just because it's his job, but because it's his way of contributing to our lives.

I am inspired by his resilience and the way he faces each day with a smile. He has taught me that life's challenges can be overcome with love and intention. His life is a beautiful example of how one person can make a difference in the lives of others.

In a world where relationships are often defined by blood, my grandfather's love has shown me a different kind of family. He has proven that true family is built on love, care, and the willingness to be there for each other, no matter what. His legacy is one of love and inspiration, and I am proud to call him my grandfather.

His story is a reminder that we can all choose to love and care for those around us. It doesn't take much—just a kind heart and the intention to make a difference. My grandfather's life is a beautiful example of this truth, and I am forever grateful for the love and guidance he has given me.
