Summer is one of the most exciting and favorite times of the years for kids. It’s the few months of freedom they are able to have. Once those seemingly short weeks are over though, they have to go back to school. It can be hard trying to get your kids ready to go back, but here are a few things you can do to help ease them into the school routine again.

Get Them To Sleep

One of the most important things that kids need during the school year is the right amount of sleep. While it’s easy to let them stay up and do whatever they want throughout the summer, it isn’t wise to let them fall into bad sleeping habits. Start working on getting them to bed early before the school year has even begun, as this will help make the transition to a busy school day much easier. Proper rest is vital for them to be able to stay awake and alert throughout each of their classes. If you notice that your children are struggling with falling asleep, you could look into using Young Living Essential Oils as a natural remedy for helping them sleep better.

Start the Routine

Once school starts back up, every day has its own schedule and requirements. Kids have to be up early and aren’t home until sometime in the afternoon. Each day is filled with classes and activities that they must go to and be a part of whether they want to be or not. Summer is often filled with things they want to do that can be done whenever they want to do it. With school comes a busy lifestyle that is easier done with pre-established routines. Go over these plans before school starts, and start implementing whatever you can beforehand as well. This will help get your children used to the new life they will have to live each day.

Talk With Them

No matter their age, it’s important to talk to your children about the upcoming school year. Ask them how they are feeling and what they are looking forward to. Find out if anything scares them and try to appease whatever apprehensions they may have. Most kids do not like school for various reasons, but some have true fears and worries that shouldn’t be left unsolved. You should also take some time to go over what is expected of your kids while in school. While you may expect them to perform one way, their countenance may be quite the opposite without your instruction.

Figure Out Classes

While the younger grades have most of their classes picked out for them, high schoolers, in particular, are able to choose some of the courses they wish to take. Don’t wait until the last minute to figure out what these are going to be. Talk to them ahead of time and give them a chance to think about what they want to take. You should also figure out what sports programs and extracurricular activities your students want to do. This way you can figure out what schedules will be like and what you need to have ready for them when those things begin.

Plan What's for Lunch

While you know it’s important for your children to eat every day, you may not have given much thought to how you are going to feed them lunch at school. During the summer you have more options for what you can give them because of the ease of having a kitchen. School is not like that. You’ll need to decide when and if they will be eating what the school provides, or what they will be bringing each day. Make up a menu of things that you know they will eat and come up with a schedule for when they will be eating what. This can save you a lot of time, money, and arguments by having this already planned out.

While it may not be fun to go back to school, it is necessary. Do what you can to make it an easy transition for your kids.
