Toba

In ancient times there was a farmer named Toba who was alone in a gentle and fertile valley. The farmer works the rice fields and fields for his living needs. Apart from working on his farm, sometimes the man went fishing to the river which was not far from his house. Every time you fish, you can easily get fish because there are lots of fish in the clear river. He cooks the fish to eat.

One afternoon, after returning from the field, the man went straight to the river to fish. It didn't take long for the fishing line to be struck by the fish which immediately pulled the fishing line far into the middle of the river. The farmer's heart became happy, because he knew that the fish that had grabbed his fishing rod was a big fish. After a while he let the fishing line be pulled back and forth, then he pulled the fishing line slowly. When he jerked the fishing line, he saw a large fish hanging and floundering. flutter at the end of the fishing line. He quickly pulled the fish ashore so that it would not escape. With a happy smile, he took off the fishing rod and the fish's mouth. He smiled as he imagined, how good the fish meat will be when grilled. When he left the river, he returned to his house, it was already dusk.

Arriving home, the man immediately brought the large fish he caught into the kitchen. When he was about to light a fire to roast the fish, it turned out that the firewood in his kitchen had run out. He immediately went out to get firewood from under his house. Then, carrying a few pieces of firewood he climbed back up the house and headed straight for the kitchen.

When the man arrived at the kitchen, he was very surprised because the big fish was not there anymore. However, in the place where the fish had been placed, several gold coins were seen. The man immediately brought the gold coins into the room.

When the man opened the door to the room, suddenly his blood was splattered, in the room stood a beautiful woman with long, flowing hair. The man became very enchanted because the face of the woman standing in front of him was extraordinarily beautiful.

Because it was already night, the woman asked that the lights be turned on. After the man turned on the light, he invited the woman to accompany him to the kitchen because he wanted to cook rice for them. While waiting for the rice to cook, the woman told her that she was an incarnation of the big fish that the man had gotten while fishing in the river.

Then he also explained that some of the gold coins located in the kitchen were the embodiment of the sislk. After a few weeks, the beautiful woman lived in the same house with him, one day the man proposed to the woman to be his wife. The woman is willing to accept his proposal provided the man must swear that in his lifetime he will never leverage the origin of his wife incarnate from the fish. After the man swears so, marry them.

A year later, they were blessed with a son whom they named Samosir. The child is very pampered by his mother which results in the child behaving badly and being lazy.

After growing up, the child was told by his mother to deliver rice every day to his father who worked on the farm. However, he often refused to do the task until his mother had to deliver rice to the farm.

One day, the child was told by his mother to deliver rice to the farm for his father. At first, he refused. However, because he was constantly forced by his mother, he angrily went to deliver the rice. In the middle of the road, he ate most of the rice and side dishes. When he arrived at the farm, he left the leftover rice that he had left with his father. When he received it, the father was very hungry because the rice was too late to be delivered. Therefore, the father became truly angry when he saw the rice given to him was leftovers. His anger increased when his son admitted that he ate most of the rice.

The father's patience was lost, and he beat his son while saying: "A child who can’t be taught. Do not know how to profit. The basis of the female offspring of fish!”

While crying, the boy ran home to see his mother at home. He complained to his mother that he had been beaten by his father. He recounted all the words his father had insulted him. Hearing her son's story, the mother was sad, especially because her husband had broken his oath with the insulting words he said to his son. The mother told her son to immediately go up the hill not far from their house and climb the tallest tree on the top of the hill. Without asking again, the child immediately carried out his mother's order. He ran to the hill and climbed it.

When the mother of her child saw that she had almost reached the top of the tree she had climbed on the hill, she ran towards the river which was not far from their house. When he arrived by the river the lightning struck with the sound of thunder.

A moment later he jumped into the river and suddenly turned into a big fish. At the same time, the river was flooded with great floods and rained heavily. Sometime later, the river water had overflowed everywhere and was flooded by the valley where the river flowed. Pak Toba could not save himself; he was drowned by a puddle of water. Over time, the puddle grew wider and turned into a large lake which was later called the people of Lake Toba. The small island in the middle is called Samosir Island.
