My Dad used to write me stories. Well, me and my sister. We'd sit on her bed, huddled together as he read us stories about the creatures that lived in our garden, small things hidden in the grass; a spider called Hondoros, his wise helper Snarly Gribbler, and side characters such as the roguish Rotto Gutslash Pug-Weasel.

He also wrote and draw an entire comic book about a giant silver moth that would come and take you to a land of dreams if only you wished for him to arrive, the second before you fell asleep.

Unfortunately, my dad died a number of years ago, but in the tsunami of change that ensued, I managed to rescue some of his stories, but the likes of Rotto Gutslash Pug-Weasel were consigned to history. I can't even remember what type of creature he was. A mixture, I believe.

It's weird, but sometimes I want to pick up the phone and call him to ask him questions like this. What was Rotto, can you remind me? Then I remember he's no longer around. A phone to the afterlife would really be convenient, I'm not going to lie.

Anyway, I now have my own son, he's six and heavily into Roald Dahl, as I was too at his age.

He loves stories. So we sat down the other day and used Chat GPT to write. story to his liking. He did all the prompts. He made all the changes. He decided how the story should go. Here it is below, let me know what you think.

Chat GPT's Story About Theo and the Demon

"Once upon a time, in a small town nestled in the rolling hills, lived a boy named Theo. Theo was a curious and adventurous lad, always eager to explore and discover new things. But there was one thing that puzzled him more than anything else - the strange creature that lived next door.

The creature was unlike anything Theo had ever seen. It was a demon, a terrible and fearsome being that only came out at night to wreak havoc upon the town. No one else seemed to notice the demon's presence, but Theo knew it was there. He could hear its low growls and see its red eyes glowing in the darkness.

The demon was a voracious eater, devouring buildings and structures as if they were made of sugar. Theo was horrified by its destructive power, and he knew that he had to do something to stop it.

One night, as he was lying in bed, Theo heard the demon's growls growing louder and more intense. He peered out the window and saw the demon, now twice its usual size, devouring a nearby building. Suddenly, the demon let out a deafening roar, and Theo realized that something was different. He watched in horror as the demon began to replicate itself, creating an army of smaller demons that swarmed the town.

Theo knew that he couldn't wait any longer. He had to find a way to stop the demon before it was too late. So, he set out on a quest to learn everything he could about the creature. He talked to the town's elders, scoured the library for books about demons, and even sought the advice of a wise wizard who lived in the nearby forest.

Finally, after months of searching, Theo discovered the secret to destroying the demon. He learned that the demon was vulnerable to light, and that a bright enough light would be able to banish it back to the underworld from which it came. With this knowledge, Theo set out to gather as many lamps and candles as he could find.

That night, as the demon and its army rampaged through the town, Theo lit all the lamps and candles he had gathered. The light was so bright that it illuminated the entire town, and the demon let out a bloodcurdling scream. Theo watched in awe as the demon began to shrink, its form contorting and twisting as it was forced back into the underworld.

With the demon gone, the town breathed a sigh of relief. Theo was hailed as a hero, and his bravery and cunning were praised by all. The townspeople thanked him for saving them from the demon, and they erected a statue in his honor.

Theo was happy that he had been able to save the town, but he was also a bit sad. He had grown to love the thrill of adventure, and he missed the excitement of facing the demon each night. So, he decided to set out on a new quest, to find other creatures just as strange and dangerous as the demon, and to defeat them as well.

And so, Theo traveled far and wide, facing countless dangers and discovering wondrous sights. He became known as the greatest monster hunter in the land, and his name was whispered with reverence and admiration. But no matter where his adventures took him, he never forgot the demon that had lived next door, and the bravery and cunning that had allowed him to banish it back to the underworld.

And that, my friends, is the story of Theo and the demon. A tale of bravery, cunning, and the never-ending quest for adventure."
