April Fools

Poo Poo Pancake

April Fool's Day. The only day of the year where it is not only permissible to play jokes on people, it is encouraged. This is a true mom story. The morning of this particular April Fool's Day, my second-born son, Austin crafted a devious plan for his older brother Daniel. Austin took some strawberry flavored Ex-lax and carefully mixed it into a cup of coffee that he then brought to his brother.

Being that this was the first moment in the HISTORY of time that Austin had brought Daniel ANYTHING at all much less a cup of coffee.....Daniel was very suspicious of this extravagant act of kindness that Austin was offering him, that also happened to be on the fine morning of April Fool's Day. The strawberry aroma caught Daniel's attention and he asked Austin what he had done to the coffee.

Austin knew that he was busted, so in a foolish attempt to prove his innocence.......he drank the coffee in front of Daniel. I would assume that Austin planned on sticking close by the bathroom to file paperwork in the oval office for the rest of the day.

Unfortunately for Austin, he didn't get rid of the evidence in the kitchen. Daniel saw the box of Ex-lax and crafted a diabolical plan of his own and conspired together with his little sister Hannah. They took plastic wrap to the bathroom that was shared amongst the siblings and lifted the lid and the seat of the toilet. They applied a sheet of plastic wrap over the toilet bowl so perfectly that it could not be seen! The lid to the toilet was closed and they laid in wait until Austin's Ex-lax coffee required him to visit the bathroom.

Fun Fact. Out of all of my children, Austin is BUTT FUSSY, meaning that he likes his butt super clean. He potty trained himself at two years of age because he didn't like the way it felt when he had an accident in his pants. Out of all of my children, this was the worst possible thing that could be done to him. In contrast, his siblings enjoyed the entirety of this practical joke that Austin inspired upon himself.

He never saw it coming. The Ex-lax moment finally kicked in and Austin RAN quickly go to the bathroom. Hearing the commotion of Austin running down the hall and shutting the bathroom door.......Daniel and Hannah anxiously waited outside the bathroom door for Austin to discover what they had done.

Austin started screaming when the contents of his hiney did not release into the toilet as expected...but instead flatted out and squished all over his backside!!! His siblings were rolling around on the floor outside the door.....laughing and crying at the same time. It is kind of a red neck moment when someone talks to you through the door while you are using the bathroom, but my kids were not phased by this notion.

My daughter Hannah is laugh-talking through the door, asking Austin how he liked his "poo-poo pancake". There may or may not have been some other words exchanged, but that is the one statement that stuck. You may wonder where mom was while all of this was going on.....thankfully, I was not present for this event.

My children gleefully told me all about it when I got home that day AFTER the entire crime scene had been cleaned and they had triumphantly beaten Austin at his own game. Austin was able to jump into the shower and rinse off after the squishy disaster occurred. We have a family motto that goes like this....if it's going to be funny later, it's funny now.

You may be wondering what I did as the mom in this scenario. It's simple. The crime scene was clean, the joke was played flawlessly....so I just laughed about the poo-poo pancake prank.
