15 minutes after my fourth baby was born

As a woman who has given birth four times, I’m all too familiar with the *wonderful* (Not!) postpartum period. Without sugarcoating it, postpartum in general is unpleasant to say the very least, especially that first week. These five tips might make it a bit easier!

1. Take all you can from the hospital!

Most hospitals with provide some type of postpartum products. Take home as much as you can! You’ve already paid for it! Also ask for more before you leave. Most of the time your nurse will hook you up!

2. Get incontinence underwear

This one is honestly a lifesaver and I didn’t discover it until I had my second. They are so much easier to use than trying to maneuver that giant pad in the mesh underwear. My favorite was the Always brand boutique discreet underwear. They are comfortable and so easy to throw on!

3. Buy comfortable clothes!

Invest in your preference of comfortable clothes, wether it’s yoga pants or gowns or whatever you like.More than likely your body will be sore, leaky and maybe even ~smelly~. Believe me, you’re going to want to be comfortable. I lived in yoga pants and a house robe for two weeks 🤷‍♀️

4. Make meal times as easy on yourself as possible.

If possible, try to get your partner to cover meal times. If you can’t, make it as easy as possible on yourself mama. I survived on door dash for the first week. If you can’t do that, cook things that are easier for you. My other kids might have survived on microwave foods for a little while 🤷‍♀️ As long as you and your family is getting fed somehow, don’t stress about it.

5. Use warm water!

Warm water is amazing for postpartum. If you can, get a warm bath! If your doctor has advised against that, you can still stand in the shower. This is especially helpful around days 3-5 when your milk comes in and you get engorged. I would let the hot water run over my chest. It was the only thing that helped. Also, use warm water in your peri bottle. It is sooo soothing.

These were the things that helped me the most! Each women is different and will handle postpartum differently. The most important thing is to rest and heal. Also, be easy on yourself mama, your body just did an amazing thing! You will eventually start to feel better... but in the meantime, cuddle and rest with your new little miracle 🥰
