With the advancement in technology and with better smart and enhanced techniques, one can now learn subjects and topics easily, however, Imagine how difficult it is If you have tried to learn something by heart and later forgot the topic or the answers.

Some students have had hard times remembering or have experienced struggling during the examinations for the topic questions they know they have learned and remembered however the correct answer slipped from the mind at the time of examination and they end up messing their mind or been frustrated and the frustration is visible on the answer sheet as well as on the report card.

This feeling is equal to as you have prepared hard for the battle but before the war, you are injured and declared unfit and suppose to wait and watch others losing/dying.

There was a psychologist named Hermann Ebbinghaus who has pioneered the research in the field of retention and learning and he has concluded that we can lose 75% of the Information within 6 days of learning something IF the Information is without any reinforcement or has a connection to prior knowledge and his theory is considered to be true and best till date.

Let Us give you a scientific reason for that :

Here are two words for you to read

• Schappe

• Orange

Making a connection with Schappe is difficult and you will tend to forget within 30 minutes of reading however when we talk about Oranges you can visualize the color Orange or the fruit reaping on a tree or the last time you ate it.

Therefore, Your mind tends to make a connection with Orange with the last remembered experience possible and that’s how we remember things easily and smartly.

So let’s learn and adapt the smart ways to train our brain to remember what we have worked hard upon to learn so that the Information is stored for the longest time and is useful when needed.

• Make a Combination of Text with Images

Studies have proved that the human mind tends to remember things better when they are presented with Images, therefore, makes notes and wherever possible try to make diagrams, graphs, or images so that when you revise before the examination the image will help you to remember things easily and conveniently. To make it more convenient you can use the color markers to highlight as colored information is easily stored and recalled by brain neurons.

• Active Learning

• Create a Mental Handle

If you have gone through the notes of an extraordinary or a genius student you will find a lot of irrelevant diagrams or shapes. Their notebook looks more like a scribble book however the facts are way different. They are creating a mental handle or a “cue” for everything to remember and these cues can find the information in your brain when required. There can be endless ways to learn and remember things and the best part about cue is there is no pre-defined rule for that whatever seeks your confidence the most in remembering you can go with the process.

• Avoid Negative Thinking

Students who believe in advance that they cannot remember are definitely going to forget therefore the first and foremost training is to stop thinking negatively. You are not only understanding yourself but a negative thinker has already lost the confidence to win. Prepare your mind, meditate, go out and play avoid meeting negative thinkers and into negative conversations to have the mind ready for the new learnings and new opportunities.

Talk to yourself in the mirror and say “I have a good memory” OR “I will remember this” and then start learning and find the difference and we can be sure that there will be a lot of difference in your grasping power and your confidence to remember topics.

Parents and Teachers should also encourage positive thinking and a keep-going attitude in the students before teaching a new topic or evolve new and creative methods so that it’s easy for students to learn and remember.
