Introduction:

Welcome to a day in Civil Hospital, where medical professionals and researchers gather to enhance their knowledge and share valuable insights. Today, we dive into an exciting academic activity centered around ASPECTS (Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score) and its utility in acute ischemic cerebrovascular stroke. Join us as we delve into the informative session led by Dr. Ketan Vasava(resident), with Dr. Paresh Zanzmera (HOD, neurology department GMC, Surat) moderating the event.

The Academic Activity:

During the session conducted under the project name "IMPETUStroke" at the New Civil Hospital in Surat, the Principal Investigator, Dr. Paresh Zanzmera discussed the significance of the Aspect Score in stroke management. The Aspect Score is a critical tool used in assessing the extent and severity of damage caused by an ischemic stroke on brain imaging scans, specifically computed tomography (CT) scans. It evaluates the involvement of different regions of the brain affected by the stroke, such as the insula, cortex, and basal ganglia.

By utilizing the Aspect Score, healthcare professionals can effectively determine the suitability of patients for advanced treatments, such as thrombectomy or clot removal procedures. This scoring system allows medical practitioners to make informed decisions regarding the most appropriate intervention for stroke patients, maximizing their chances of recovery and minimizing potential complications.

The academic activity commenced at precisely 12:40 PM in the Medicine ICU seminar room at NCH, Surat. The setting was abuzz with enthusiasm as medical professionals, residents, and students eagerly filled the room, ready to expand their understanding of acute ischemic cerebrovascular stroke and its assessment using ASPECTS.

Dr. Ketan Vasava, an esteemed expert in the field, took center stage as the speaker for the session. His vast experience and in-depth knowledge immediately captivated the audience. Dr. Vasava began by introducing ASPECTS, a validated scoring system used to assess early ischemic changes on computed tomography (CT) scans of the brain.

With visual aids and case studies, Dr. Vasava elaborated on the significance of ASPECTS in guiding treatment decisions for acute ischemic cerebrovascular stroke patients. He explained how ASPECTS helps clinicians determine the extent of ischemic changes, identify appropriate candidates for thrombolytic therapy, and predict patient outcomes.

Throughout the presentation, Dr. Paresh Zanzmera skillfully moderated the session, fostering engaging discussions and addressing participants' queries. The interactive nature of the event encouraged attendees to actively participate and share their experiences, creating a vibrant learning environment.

Following the Academic Activity:

After the enriching academic session, attendees had the opportunity to network and exchange ideas during the lunch break. It was a chance for professionals from diverse backgrounds to connect, discuss their research, and establish collaborations. The atmosphere was filled with camaraderie, as the attendees eagerly shared their thoughts on the presentation and reflected on the potential applications of ASPECTS in their practice.

Project IMPETUStroke:

During this eventful day at Civil Hospital, I had the pleasure of working alongside my dedicated assistant, Shobhana Chaudhari, on Project IMPETUStroke. Together, we have been working tirelessly to develop innovative approaches to stroke management and improve patient outcomes. The academic activity provided an excellent platform to discuss our ongoing project, gather valuable feedback, and forge partnerships with like-minded individuals interested in stroke research.

Conclusion:

The academic activity at Civil Hospital proved to be an insightful and invigorating experience. Dr. Ketan Vasava's presentation on ASPECTS and its utility in acute ischemic cerebrovascular stroke shed light on a critical aspect of stroke management. With Dr. Paresh Zanzmera's guidance, the session became an interactive forum where professionals exchanged ideas and expanded their knowledge.

This day showcased the dedication and passion of medical professionals committed to advancing stroke research and patient care. As we leave Civil Hospital, we carry with us new insights, connections, and inspiration to continue our pursuit of improving stroke management through initiatives like Project IMPETUStroke.
