The UK’s Points-Based Immigration System

The UK is one of the fastest developing countries around the globe!

From leading infrastructure to advanced technology, every domain in the UK is at a flourishing pace!

Given the pace of development, the requirement for skilled, talented, driven, and enthusiastic individuals from foreign regions have boomed.

To make sure that only skilled and professional individuals join the working teams in the UK, the government has introduced a point-based immigration system.

Although the concept is quite new and recently applied, it is essential to understand it in detail.

The point-based system is an essential aspect of the UK visa process. It is the way for the government to analyse you and your profile to see if you are a fit for the UK or not and other such factors.

What Is The UK Point-Based System?

The UK point-based system is a recently introduced phenomenon in which foreign candidates are analysed by the Immigration Department.

In simple terms, the point-based system will take several phases of the test and simply provide points based on your performance in a particular domain (For say efficiency in the English language). Visas are only awarded to the candidates having "enough" points and are known as UK skilled worker visas.

It means that the candidate must have a minimum score as a threshold to get a working/student Visa for the UK.

Usually, this system is most beneficial for employers who wish to hire people from different regions of the world through different immigration routes.

You must determine the right immigration route for yourself and get a valid UK Work Permit

How Does The UK's Point-Based Immigration System Work?

Is the point-based immigration system a new concept for you? Worry not!

You're not alone as various candidates looking forward to joining the UK are not well aware of this system.

As mentioned earlier, point-based immigration can be completed through different immigration routes. These routes depend on your choice, employment status, domain, interest, and many such factors.

To make sure that you select the right immigration route, let's understand these routes in detail.

1. Skilled Worker Route

Employers who wish to hire employees from different countries and regions can simply search for the best crowd with the Skilled worker route.

To hire talented professionals through this immigration route, employers must ensure three factors. These are:

• The candidate must be issued with a home office license and a genuine employer/sponsor

• The job profile for which you are hiring them is required in the UK and lies on the RQF3 Or above levels.

• The candidate is fluent in English and holds Language efficiency as per the required standards

Make sure you also keep the salary threshold in mind while employing candidates through this route

2. Global Talent Route

You're not a licensed sponsor?

Don't worry, you can still hire talented candidates from around the globe through the global talent route.

According to the rules, you can hire candidates having the skills and talent for a particular job without any job offer given that they have enough points on the points-based system.

Also, the candidates must hold an endorsement from any of the UK bodies that are approved by the Home office.

As per the recent updates, the bodies that can endorse such talented candidates include:

• The Royal Society- For medical and science-related domains

• The Royal Academy, Engineering- Only for the engineering domain

• UK research and science- For research or the science domain

• Tech Industry- Only for digital technology

• Arts Council England- For all the Art and culture-related applications

There might be a few other endorsement bodies as well.

3. Graduate Route

Do you have your graduate degree and wish to work in the UK?

This immigration route is just the right one for you.

This route is appropriate for students having graduate degrees and don't have any job offer letters. You can easily look for work in the UK or study ahead.

The validity of this Visa lasts up to 2 years whereas, for doctorate students, it is kept to be 3 years.

Once you find the right job for yourself, you can easily apply for a skilled worker visa as well.

4. Health And Care Visa

This route is specifically for healthcare workers. From doctors to nurses, if you belong to the healthcare industry, this immigration route is the most beneficial one for you.

Another benefit of this route is the reduced Visa application fee. The candidates who are found to be eligible for this Visa will have to pay a discounted fee as well as constant support throughout the whole process will be provided to them.
