The power and importance of creating an awesome logo

The make or break moment

I’m here to talk to you about the importance and power of an awesome logo. Simply put, when it comes to branding, one of the most important aspects of a company's identity is its logo.

Why?

It serves as the face of your brand and is usually the first thing people see when they discover and interact with your business.

It gives them a first impression of you and your identity and within a few seconds they will decide if they are attracted to you or not and want to learn more about you. (It’s shallow I know but unfortunately, it’s true, it really is a make-or-break moment!)

As with most things, first impressions matter. Your first point of contact with a potential customer will likely be your logo before they even know your name or learn about your products and services. For this very reason, it is absolutely crucial that your logo is clear, comforting and aesthetically pleasing so it doesn’t turn them off or disappoint them before they’ve even given you a chance. Think about it, if you’re greeted by something confusing and hard to look at or that just doesn’t whisper softly to you ‘come on in, you know you want to’ then you're gonna get back on google and find somewhere else. You want it to be welcoming and enticing from the word go and inspire them to take action with you.

What does your logo do?

It represents your whole business in a single image. It shows the potential customer who you are and what you stand for, it reaches out to them emotionally to draw them in.

Having a well-designed logo can help you stand out in a crowd and get noticed, if you have something fresh, eye-catching and enticing you are more likely to be seen and chosen. It creates professionalism and shows that you take your business seriously, signaling that you provide high-quality services or products which helps to establish your business's credibility. Not only this, if your logo is beautiful, noticeable and seen repeatedly it can help instil trust and familiarity with potential customers and create loyalty and repeat business which is ultimately what we all want right?

But surely I can just use something pretty with my company name and if people are looking for my services they will find me?

Sure you can, but you want to get noticed right? And get clients that love what you do and keep coming back for more?!

Your logo's job is a simple but complex one; to look good! But also to impress your clients and show them that they NEED your products or services even if they didn’t know they did before, all while communicating your business identity and personality. Sounds impossible, doesn’t it? Trust me it’s not!

But how do I create the perfect logo I hear you ask?

I have a full blog post coming with a longer description for you on this topic but the short version…………hire a good graphic designer! No seriously, having professional help is the best way to get it right as designers spend their days expressing meanings and emotions through colours and images. It’s their job. The most important thing YOU can do as a company is give them key information about your industry, your company's culture and values, your target audience, your goals, etc. This will help your designer to create a bespoke piece of artwork that just screams ‘You are the one for me!’ and that really resonates with your potential buyer on an emotional level.

Keep in mind while designing your masterpiece that it needs to be versatile so that it can be easily adapted to appear in a variety of contexts like on your website, your social media, black and white on business paperwork, HUGE on a billboard or small on a business card. In each instance, it needs to look good and be visible. The best logos really are simple and easily recognisable, think of Nike or MacDonald's! The dream for any business is to have that kind of impact and recognition from something so simple. AND it is entirely possible with the right intentions and marketing behind it!

So basically my top tip is………………..drum roll please …… …………….. don’t make a crappy logo!! No, but seriously, it is worth investing some time, energy and money into your logo as it is ultimately the face of your business, if you get it wrong it could turn potential customers away or if you get it REALLY wrong it can even damage your reputation! Think carefully about shapes and symbols and their meanings, the use of colours and fonts and of course most importantly your company name. Get these right and you can’t go wrong!
