The positive effects of the Teen Mentoring Program for high school students

Mentoring programs help youths decrease their risk of involvement in drug addiction, dropping out, bullying, suicide, depression, and anxiety through age-appropriate content and activities proven to reduce these risks. Mentors are carefully screened and trained to provide support and positive role models for youths in these mentoring programs.

This study used a randomized controlled trial with pre- and post-measures to investigate the relationship between the Talking to the Potential, Ability, and Resilience Inside Every Kid (SPARK) Teen Mentoring program and participants' knowledge of the principles of mind, thought, and consciousness; communication, decision making, and problem-solving skills; emotional regulation; and self-concept.

The SPARK Program program is a resilience-focused social-emotional learning program designed to promote youth resilience, emotional well-being, and academic success. Study participants included 396 9th to 12th-grade students from four high schools. Random assignment occurred at the class level and resulted in 12 classes (n 200 students) in the intervention condition and 12 classes (n 200 students) in the control group.

Academic information suggested that students whose scores improved in the classroom after receiving the intervention indicated that they displayed improved capabilities of mind and body, thought, and consciousness, speech, regulation, and analysis after taking part in the intervention, and reduced or remained unchanged for those whose scores remained the same.

Results of this initial research continue to provide evidence for the effectiveness of SPARK with young adults in high school and display both the positive impacts on the development of emotional and interpersonal development needed for pro-social activity and academic success as well as the way in which precautionary measures could be taken to limit any side effects in the future. Considerations for program development in the future and evaluations are discussed.

Social and Emotional Learning

Developmental areas that are important for developing healthy, capable young adults involve having social and emotional skills associated with resilience, as one example, responsiveness to others, empathy, care, positive relationship skills, and the ability to be flexible and adapt in solving social problems. Some research has shown that prosocial skills in kindergarten predict success in adulthood (Nicoll, 2014).

What is a Teen Mentoring Program?

The current study contributes to the existing literature on school-based SEL programs by providing an initial examination of the Speaking to the Potential, Ability, and Resilience Inside Every Kid (SPARK) Teen Mentoring program to date.

The SPARK Teen Mentoring program is an evidence-based resilience-based, school-based social and emotional wellness initiative designed to reduce risk factors, uncover innate resiliency, promote healthy emotion, and enhance academic success. In fusing the thought and consciousness principles, the SPARK initiative adopts the idea that people are not passive recipients of undesirable circumstances.

The SPARK program is founded on the assumption that individuals are not passive recipients of unfortunate situations but have the potential to develop the requisite strength of character for dealing with adversity. The principle of MInd explains the force underlying thought and consciousness and has been considered the source of inner mental strength and cognitive ability that each individual possesses.

Conclusion

The SPARK Teen Mentoring intervention has been shown to be an effective means of reducing risk factors, uncovering innate resilience, promoting natural emotional well-being, and facilitating school success. This intervention has the potential to make a lasting positive impact on the lives of teens.

Overall, these findings indicate the effectiveness of Teen Mentorship programming intervention for high school students and shed light on key areas for assessing future program development and evaluation.

Research findings indicate that SPARK program has the potential to provide youth with social, emotional, and developmental tools needed to reduce risk factors (maladaptive thoughts and behaviors) and increase self-esteem, well-being, and academic success. Findings from this study are consistent with other research demonstrating the positive impact of SEL programs on social, emotional, and developmental skills.

The Spark Mentoring program is a valuable asset to the community. It provides support and guidance for young people in a safe and affordable space. The program offers practical advice and tools for young people to grow into successful adults. The Spark Mentoring program is a valuable resource for the community and should be utilized by all who are seeking support and guidance.
