She wandered off from her parents, following the capuchin. It led her to a quiet part of the zoo, a gate marked “Staff Only.” The monkey jumped onto the gate, tapped a keypad with its tiny finger, and the door clicked open. “You coming?” it asked, glancing over its shoulder. Zara stepped forward. “Why did you take it?” The panther’s voice was like silk. “Because humans don’t deserve magic anymore. They stare at screens, not stars. They see animals as exhibits, not equals.” Zara stood tall. “Not all humans are like that. I’m not like that.” The panther narrowed its eyes. “Prove it.” He tossed the Heartstone into the air and vanished. The stone landed with a splash in the zoo’s river, which suddenly began to swirl and rise like a serpent. Zara didn’t hesitate. She dashed toward the river, leaping onto stepping stones, ducking flying fish, and dodging vines that sprang to life. The animals cheered her on. “You’ve got this, Zara!” the capuchin shouted. She dove into the water, swam deep, and grabbed the glowing stone. As soon as her fingers touched it, the river calmed and light exploded from the Heartstone, bathing the zoo in golden warmth. Zara floated to the surface, the Heartstone clutched to her chest. She climbed out, gasping and soaked. The animals gathered around. The giraffe bent down and smiled. “You did it.” The capuchin hugged her. “You brought the magic back.” The panther reappeared, softer now. “Perhaps… I was wrong.” Zara smiled. “Maybe next time, you should ask for help instead of stealing magic.” The panther chuckled. “Noted.” Suddenly, the ground shimmered again. The zoo began to fade. The animals waved as everything returned to normal—the cages, the paths, the ordinary sounds of a regular zoo. Zara’s parents appeared around the corner. “There you are!” her dad said. “We thought we lost you.” “I was on an adventure,” Zara said, grinning. Her mom laughed. “I’m sure you were.” As they walked toward the exit, Zara glanced back. The capuchin sat on a branch, winked at her, and vanished into the trees. Zara smiled. She knew this wouldn’t be her last wild adventure.
