When everything came to a halt, was when digital marketing rose to prominence. The awareness of online marketing increased rapidly during and after the pandemic. Everyone started promoting their products and services on websites and social media applications like Facebook, Instagram, etc.

E-commerce users: 

As per the Kathmandu Post, the number of Nepali e-commerce users increased after the first lockdown. As almost everyone was sitting at home, people started shopping online for all the necessary items. And slowly, this became a habit and people started enjoying online shopping and never went back. After the lockdown, people continued with their online shopping, and hence e-retailers continued earning profits as their business did not decline post-COVID.

Digital Payments:

People also started making digital payments during the pandemic. Online transactions reached Rs 4.93 trillion between mid-October and mid-November 2021, up from Rs 2 trillion during the same period in 2020, according to Nepal Rastra Bank. Additionally, the volume of transactions increased, from 34 million to 48.66 million during the evaluation period.

Internet Usage:

As of mid-November this year, internet usage had reached 116.91 per cent, up from 80 per cent at the same time in 2020. The primary industries driving the expansion of e-commerce are fast-moving consumer goods, personal care products, and supermarket items. These industries are followed by consumer electronics, fashion and accessories, and wellness.

E-commerce companies:

As per the Kathmandu post, during the second wave of the epidemic, e-commerce businesses like Doormeet were launched. Doormeet.com co-founder Nischal Niroula claimed that the pandemic was the motivation for the company’s launch because they noticed that clients sought cheaper and quicker delivery.

Online Shopping: 

Many people in Kathmandu started shopping online. Initially, necessary items like groceries were being purchased online and then slowly people started to buy everything from e-commerce websites.
