Sam Altman's prediction came true
This is the best way to grow your business though AI.
For the first time, a ₹17,000 crore company was created using AI: just two brothers manage the operation; Sam Altman's $1 billion prediction came true.
Matthew Gallagher, a 41-year-old Los Angeles resident, has built a company worth ₹17,000 crore using AI. The company's name, Medly, took just two months and ₹18 lakh to build. Medvie is a telehealth startup that offers online sales and consultations for weight loss medications. It's in the news because its annual revenue has reached nearly ₹17,000 crore. This company has just two people: Matthew and his brother, Elliot.
Code, content, images, all work should be done by AI
Matthew used AI to create software code, website content, and advertising images and videos. He even deployed AI bots for customer service. He used tools like ChatGPT, Cloud, and Grok for coding and content. He used tools like MidJourney and Runway to create images and video ads for advertising. He used AI voice tools and chatbots for customer service. Matthew even created an AI clone of his own voice to schedule appointments.
Partnership with other platforms for delivery of medicines
To manage medication delivery and doctor engagement, Mathew has partnered with platforms like Care Validate and OpenLoop. These companies manage the doctor network, medications, and shipping. Medvi uses AI for marketing and customer acquisition. In September 2024, the company acquired 300 new customers in the first month and 1,000 in the second. In its first full year, the company generated sales of approximately ₹3,700 crore.
FDA warning for misleading advertising
The US Food and Drug Administration has also warned the company for misleading advertising. Furthermore, it has been sued in California for violating anti-spam laws. Initially, the company's AI chatbots made mistakes, such as misquoting prices.
There are no plans to recruit employees in the future.
Matthew says he doesn't want to hire too many people because it delays decision-making and increases costs. However, he jokingly added that he sometimes feels lonely, so he might consider having someone to "keep him company" in the future. A company with 60 employees was in loss, while the one with 2 was in profit. This is not Matthew's first business. In 2016, he started a company called 'Watch Gang', which had 60 employees. Despite increasing revenue, that company never became profitable. In contrast, 'Medley', run by just two people with the help of AI, is today making profits worth crores.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman predicted in 2024 that companies run by just one person will soon be worth $1 billion. Reflecting on Matthew's success, Altman said he would like to meet this person.
Knowledge Part:
What are AI agents? These are programs that can perform tasks on their own without human intervention, such as responding to emails, analyzing data, or resolving customer complaints.
Can you also create such a company?
Experts believe that three skills are essential for a "solopreneur": 1. Marketing understanding: where the customer is and what they want. 2. Use of AI: the ability to automate tasks. 3. Outsourcing: assigning the right platforms to do the work you can't do.
