Welcome to the Rastafari: "On the Brink" Newsletter!

In this edition, we bring you the latest news and updates from the Rastafari community around the world.

The month of February by the western Hemisphere's & Gregorian calendar's calculations celebrates Black history Month & Bob Marley's Birthday!

On February 6th, the Ras Tafari community came together to celebrate the life and legacy of the legendary musician Robert Nesta "Bob" Marley, who would have turned 77 years old, this year. From Kingston to New York to London, fans paid tribute to the man who brought Reggae music to the world.

The Growth of the Ras Tafari movement

Rastafarianism (for lack of a better term) continues to grow around the world, with new communities forming in places like Brazil, India, and China. As more people learn about the so-called "religious" and/or spiritual message of unity, love, and equality, the movement is gaining traction in unexpected places.

Community Spotlight: The Ras Tafari Indigenous Village

Located in the hills of St. James, Jamaica; the Ras Tafari Indigenous Village is a living museum that showcases the accurate history, culture, and traditions of the Ras Tafari people especially from its outgrowth in Jamaica and then to the world. Visitors can tour the village, sample traditional foods, and learn about the importance of sustainable living. More historically, impactful places in the birthplace of the Ras Tafari movement like what is known as "Pinnacle;" ... or the Spanish Town section of Kingston, Jamaica. This significant place holds more significance because of the work, charity and education of the critically acclaimed first Rasta EVER, Leonard P. (Percival) Howell, who stands in record at this specified location, to be the first to proclaim such.

Though, the Ras Tafari movement as any collectivized endeavor has had its up's & down's while it continued to still garner quite the attention of many people from around the world. The message in essence, of the movement, as stated by many of the elder statesmen of the movement is to simply,..... "Do good,...do good;" as per the sound of a slowly moderate repetitive drumbeat. The explanations and expounding points on this movement can vear off into a plethora of topics, discussions and interpretations. But, it stands to say, that this very peculiar movement has had a monumental impact on the world we have in front of us today.

Ever hear of "plant-based" diets, or maybe "Going Green"...Maybe you're a vegan or vegetarian perhaps? Well, so are many Ras Tafari peoples insomuch as, some speculators could argue on the behalf of Ras Tafari peoples that much of the craze and allure to these schools of thought, were influenced heavily by the Ras Tafari movement of the 1960s-70s, particularly. But, what seemed to be the more intriguing, was the profound reasons and explanations people of the Ras Tafari movement shared with the world and continue to do so, to this day.

Though, we have a world that currently seems to not turn to religious, or spiritual things as often it has in the past many as the Ras Tafari people show a consistent dedication to looking beyond the surface of things such as race, religiosity, politics, and the like...

Here, we look to share our humble perspective especially with the Ras Tafari community but, more importantly YOU. The casual spectator, the inquisitive intellectual, the journeyman, etc etc. Thank you for joining and/or taking part of your day to read this introductory piece & you can be assured that we will expound on these and many more subjects to come pertaining the Ras Tafari; the man, the myth, the movement, the motion of the ever-changing world and man's place in it. ALL from the focal point of Ras Tafari.
