There is a saying that says, “practice makes perfect.” When it comes to testing you can never practice enough. The SAT is one of the most important tests you will take for entering a college or university. Many people will take in in their junior or senior year of high school. This allows them to take it more than once. If you take the test more than once, you can better prepare and perhaps score higher the second time. When you receive a higher score, it can open the door to attending a variety of different schools. Here are eight ways you can prepare yourself to get the best possible SAT score.

Practice Test

Being able to take a practice test before your SAT can help you prepare for the time and energy you will spend taking it. The test can be long and will be unlike any test you have taken before. Finding practice tests that have similar questions can help mentally prepare you for the exam.

Read

Reading extracurricular books will help improve your knowledge. They can help expand your intellect and understanding. When reading, you are using your brain to comprehend words and stretching your imagination. Pushing yourself in this area will help you grasp more concepts so you can better take your test.

Notecards

Having notecards with you to study while on the go is an easy way to make the most of your extra time during SAT prep. You can write small quick thoughts on a notecard, and you only need to take quick looks every once in a while. Having sets of notecards for each subject will help you study in an organized way.

Time

When you schedule your SAT, mark it down on a calendar and make a plan. You do not want to get caught off guard and have your test sneak up on you. You want to start preparing early and study often. If you get behind and have to start cramming information you will have less of a chance to remember it all. Give yourself adequate time to study all the subjects of the exam so you can be ready to get the best score possible.

Main Subjects

You will want to spend extra time and practice studying some of the main subjects on the test. Math and grammar are two of the most important ones to do so with. Find some school books from years past to help you brush up on those theories and facts you haven’t used recently. If you have had some helpful classes more recently, try not to take as much time on them, so you can focus on the other materials you may have forgotten.

Struggles

Most students will have a subject they love and excel in; however, there will usually be one they struggle in and dislike. When you are preparing for your test, you should try and focus on your weaker subjects. This will help you become an adequate student in all phases. Working on your weaknesses and turning them into strengths may help you get the better score you are striving for.

Health

General health and well-being is a good thing to practice, especially before the test. Make sure you have eaten a proper meal before-hand. Getting plenty of sleep the night before will help you perform at your best. The test can be long and monotonous, so you want to be alert and awake before entering the room to take it. You also do not want to be tense while taking the test, so focus on being loose and don’t worry about things you cannot control.

Study Partner

If you have the opportunity to study with someone, it can help both of you. Having a partner may help you move through certain material faster and make it fun. Studying can be a stressful time, so having fun is important to lighten the mood.

The SAT can be an opportunity for you to improve your chance of getting accepted to your dream college. Taking the time to study and prepare will give you the best chance of getting the highest score you can achieve.
