Udaipur, located in the western Indian state of Rajasthan, is known as the "City of Lakes" due to the numerous lakes located within and around the city. These lakes are a major tourist attraction in Udaipur and add to the natural beauty and serenity of the city. Some of the most famous lakes in Udaipur are:

Lake Pichola - This 4 km long and 3 km wide lake is regarded as the crown jewel of Udaipur's lakes. Located in the heart of the city, it has two famous islands - Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir. Jag Niwas island houses the luxurious Lake Palace hotel while Jag Mandir island has a palace and temple. A boat ride in Lake Pichola provides magnificent views of the City Palace complex and the lakeside mansions known as havelis.

Fateh Sagar Lake - Located to the north of Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar Lake is named after Maharana Fateh Singh who commissioned the construction of the lake. Spanning 1.6 km by 3.5 km, it is one of the largest artificial lakes in Udaipur. The Nehru Park island in the middle of the lake is accessible by boat. Fateh Sagar Lake offers breathtaking views of the Aravalli Hills.

Jaisamand Lake - Located about 50 km south of Udaipur, Jaisamand Lake is the second largest artificial lake in Asia. Built by Maharana Jai Singh in 1685, it measures 14 km in length, 9 km in width and has a depth of 102 feet. Its 120 feet high marble dam is a major highlight. The lake has three islands, one of which houses a wildlife sanctuary.

Swaroop Sagar - This beautiful lake was built by Maharana Swaroop Singh and is located to the west of Lake Pichola. The lake has a length of 2 km, breadth of 1 km and depth of 5 feet. It has a number of ghats or embankments, out of which some are used for cremation purposes.

Doodh Talai Lake - Located near Lake Pichola and commonly known as 'Doodh Talai' meaning milk lake, this lake was built to meet the milk and dairy requirements of the royal kitchen. The lake is surrounded by a rock garden and the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park. A musical fountain show is held here every evening.

Badi Lake - Also known as Jiyan Sagar, this artificial lake was created in the 17th century to provide drinking water to the city. Spanning 65 acres, it has an island in the middle that can be reached by a causeway. The lake also has a garden and walking track along its embankment.

Udai Sagar Lake - Constructed in the 16th century by Maharana Udai Singh, this lake is located 13 km from Udaipur. It was built as an irrigation reservoir and is spread over an area of 22 sq km. The lake has an island in the center that was once used as a hunting and picnic spot by the Mewar royals.

Rajsamand Lake - Situated about 60 km from Udaipur, this expansive lake spans over 60 sq km and is one of the five largest artificial lakes in India. Built in 1660 by Maharana Raj Singh, the lake has a magnificent marble dam and three palaces on its embankment. The lake is also a sanctuary for migratory birds.

Anand Sagar Lake - Located 3 km from Udaipur, Anand Sagar was built in 1615-16 by Kunwar Sajjan Singh. Spanning 15 acres, this artificial lake has three terraced gardens known as Rangil, Anand Bhawan and Kumhar Ghat. These gardens add to the scenic beauty of the lake which also attracts migratory birds.

Sajjangarh Lake - Situated near the famous Sajjangarh Palace or Monsoon Palace perched on a hilltop, this lake was built in the late 19th century to provide water to the residents of the palace. The lake has a capacity of 4 million cubic meters and is surrounded by lush green Aravalli hills.

Gulab Bagh and Sukhadia Circle Lake - This lake is located in Gulab Bagh which is one of the most popular gardens in Udaipur. Built by Maharana Sukhadia, this lake has a beautiful walking track and showcases stunning fountains. The lake attract s a large number of migratory birds during winter.
