The iPhone 15 Pro Max has secured second place in the DxOMark mobile camera rankings. This flagship smartphone from Apple boasts 5x "Tetraprism" zoom technology, a first for the company. Despite this impressive upgrade, it falls short of surpassing the Huawei P60 Pro, which continues to hold the top spot in terms of DxOMark scores. While the 15 Pro Max received praise for its telephoto capabilities, it did not demonstrate excellence across all aspects of mobile photography.

Apple can celebrate the fact that the 15 Pro Max outranked its predecessor, the 14 Pro Max, as well as other notable smartphones such as the OPPO Find X6 Pro with a 1-inch sensor, the triple 50MP Honor Magic5 Pro, and the variable-aperture Huawei Mate 50 Pro. With an overall score of 154 points, it secures the second position.

Unfortunately, the 15 Pro Max could not surpass the P60 Pro, which maintains its dominance with 156 points. While praised for its skin-tone accuracy, exposure, auto-focus, and video stabilization, the 15 Pro Max's zoom capabilities were deemed inconsistent across various ranges. DxOMark noted the presence of "unwanted artifacts, including flare, ghosting, and aliasing," as well as noise in low-light shots.

It is worth highlighting that these results stem from just one assessment, and the 15 Pro Max is yet to undergo further comprehensive testing, including our upcoming review. Additionally, it will be interesting to observe if DxOMark changes its stance on evaluating the 15 Pro, which lacks the innovative Tetraprism camera introduced in 2023.
