How to start your UPSC journey from the scratch

Civil services exam is one of the toughest exam, not in India but in the world. Students have to work very hard to clear this exam. You have always here from your parents, neighbours or relatives that one have to study 14 hours 15 hours daily to clear this exam. And only brilliant students can clear this exam, this not an exam for weak or average students.

But, this is totally a myth, you don't need to be a brilliant student and study 14 hours daily. In fact, many toppers who have cleared this exam are either weak or average in their academics. And this is the beauty of this exam's syllebus that everyone can clear this exam if he/she desires to be. Only thing you need in this arena is, consistency and self believe. You give your 8 hours daily to this exam then you can be the next topper.

Now, the question arises here, how and when should i start my preparation. There is no perfect answer about when should i start for the preparation, it could be after 10th, after 12th, after graduation and after PG. You can start whenever you get the desire. But, one thing you need to keep in mind that, once you start this journey you have to leave your other goals for the next 2 years.

Now, the question is how can i start this journey from the scratch. For this you need to consider some points in your mind and analyze yourself:-

1. Do you have high-concentration power

2. Do you have interest in humanities

3. You have a good command on your basics

4. Do you have ample amount of time ( Means you are in 10th, 12th, Graduation)

If your answer is yes, then give me a high five. You can start your journey with self study with the NCERT of class 6th to 12th. This Blog is not for you, i am creating this Blog for all those pupils who dont't have those 4 above-mentioned qualities together.

Lets begin

The very first thing that you need to do here is, do not worry. Yes, you don't need to worry, you can still win this race. You only need pure dedication and consistancy from now. Here, are some points that you need to follow from now onwards, these are:-

1. First of all start with one subject, it can be history, geo, arts and culture etc.

2. Start with class 6th NCERT

3. Go through coaching classes, yes this one is very important for those who are weak in the subjects and don't have good basics. Understanding NCERT is not everyone's cup of tea, especially, when your basics are not clear. When you go through a teacher, then it becomes very easy for you to understand the topics.

4. Read the syllabus, and remember the whole syllabus. This is a very important aspect in the preparation, because by this exercise you can get about the requirement of this exam.

5. Go through the PYQ. By analyzing the PYQs you will be aware of the pattern of the exams, and would know what types of questions they ask in the examination. Also, there are many questions that come in each year of the examination, where 2 to 3 questions are directly or indirectly asked. So, you need to do this exercise compulsorily.

What if i can't afford a coaching fee?

You don't need to lose your sleep if you cannot afford the coaching fee. There are lots of ways through which you can learn without coaching. Here, are some platforms where you can learn without investing any fees.

1. Sudarshan Gurjar's free classes on unacademy. Sudarshan Gurjar is a geography faculty at Unacdemy, he is a brilliant teacher and very suitable for students who have not any prior knowledge in geography. Apart from paid classes, he uploaded complete free classes on geography, also he conducts free live classes as well. so you can go through him.

2. Mrunal patel Youtube channel, he is a very popular economics teacher in UPSC niche, you can go with his playlist and learn the subject. Also, in his playlist you can find history lectures of Pratik Nayak.

3. Amit Sen Gupta's Youtube channel. On this channel, he teaches NCERT and Current affairs.

4. Ravi Agrahari's Youtube channel. He is a renowned Science and Technology teacher, also written science and tech book for UPSC. His book is one of the most famous books for UPSC preparation. So you can go with his Youtube lectures.
