If you could get more done in less time and reduce the stress of feeling overwhelmed, you will excel in your career. All super achievers get things done. They do not confuse activity with accomplishment.

All people fall into one of several categories.

You can’t get started on doing a task. You procrastinate. You put things off.

You start something, but you can’t finish it. You do not follow up and follow through. You lose interest quickly and get distracted and start something else instead of finishing the task at hand.

You are always busy doing things, but you seem never to accomplish anything. You always seem like you have too much to do. You feel overwhelmed and stressed.

You do start things and finish them, but you do not work on the most important priority. You seem to be drawn to the tasks that really do not have to be done.

Successful people understand priorities. You cannot manage time. You can only manage your priorities.

Super high achievers do have common denominators.

They write down their objectives and goals.

They then break down that goal or objective into a series of action steps and write those down into a battle plan.

They plan their work and then work their plan.

They look at tomorrow and write, in order or priority, the tasks that they are going to work on. They make sure the tasks have a “start” and a “completion”. They make sure that they can take action on the cycle and complete it within a short period of time, usually less than an hour. This way, they start something and complete it. This gives them a win. This creates momentum. They do this by breaking everything down into small action steps. You eat an elephant one bite at a time.

The key is to write down your goal or objective.

Break that down into small action steps that can be completed in a short period of time and make sure those are written down.

Write down your “to-do list” for the next day and put it in order of priority.

Look at that list and be conservative as to how long each action step will take. Never have more things to do than conservatively will take 5 hours the next day. This gives you time for those interruptions and things that come up that need immediate attention.

However, you must be disciplined. Only work on your priorities. Do not get caught up in busy work. Focus on the task you are working on. When working on a task, SHUT YOUR PHONE OFF and all notifications. Those are little distractions that will stop your ability to focus and concentrate.

I use the Priority Manager system and have for over 30 years. It works. It allows you to plan your work and work your plan, and stay focused. Staying focused is called hard thinking. It is key to getting things done and feeling powerful and in control.

When you write out what your specific priorities are for the next day, you will sleep well, and your subconscious mind will work on those things to help you get them done. You will increase production. You will get more done in less time and feel great. You can do it!
