How to Ace Math (even if you hate it)

Math, a dreaded word for some, has a bad reputation. Our educational system will have you believe that only nerds can understand it, and yet it’s something we rely on each and every day. We need to change the way we teach Math, and stop looking at it as a Science. I grew up in England, where we are taught that Maths is an Art, not a Science, and treat it as a language. Math is the language of the world around us, found in the petals of flowers (Fibonacci sequence), the vibrations of your favourite music (sine waves), and the flight path of a baseball as you score a home run (“suvat” projectile equations”).

You cannot escape Maths, you live breath and are alive because of it! It’s a beautiful language that can be mastered by all, if you take the time to learn it the way it should be taught, rather than the dreary lessons we endure in the classroom. Whether you love it, or hate it, most jobs ask for a certain level of Mathematical ability - which means passing Math class. I would love to share my knowledge and methods for understand and applying Mathematics in the real world. From studying basic Mathematics for retails jobs, to advanced lessons for college level study, and everything in between, I can help you.

I’m creating a subscription service called “Mathemagician”, where members can be given access to curriculum based mathematical video's, with simple explanations for varying abilities. Sign up and select your level of study (Kindergarden, Elementary, Middle School, High school, or College). The Premium Membership option allows members to submit one question a month about any area of Math, and they will receive a personalised video to explain anything they are particularly struggling with. Sign up a friend, and you will receive one month’s free membership.

For anyone with my level of passion for Math, there’s also a selection of factual videos exploring the underlying beauty of Math in everyday life, including interesting facts and experiments exploring “The Monty Hall Problem”, “Why casino’s always win at Roulette”, and the meaning behind Archimedes’ words “Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world”. You can also use your premium membership to ask about Mathematical facts, and we fill find the answer for you – just don’t ask me to solve the Millennium Maths problems!

My Credentials

It’s all well and good telling you what I can teach and how passionate I am, but you need to know my level of understanding and ability:

Born in Cambridge, England, I have studied Mathematics to a higher level. I went on to achieve an Upper Second Class Honours Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics (GPA equivalent of 3.3). I previously worked as a professional tutor for my University (College), tutoring students with varying abilities. My tutee’s included student Nurses, fellow Mathematicians, and students from any degree program containing a dissertation requiring statistical analysis.

Mathemagician

Mathemagician is currently under development, so we are looking to get enough interested members before allowing access to videos. We are not asking for money at this stage, but simply for you to express your interest by emailing us. Once we reach 300 interested parties we will launch our videos on a membership website, allowing ongoing access for a monthly fee so that you can watch these video's online at any time. In the meantime, whether you are looking to study Mathematics at a higher level, or just hoping to pass Math class to get your dream job, sign up today by emailing [email protected]
