WHAT ARE SOME OF THE MOST CRITICAL HEALTH CONCERN WE FACE IN 21ST CENTURY AND WHY?

In the 21st century, several critical health challenges have emerged due to a combination of factors, firstly l will talk about some of the health concerns listed below:

1.Substance abuse

2. Food insecurity

3.Cancer

4.Chronic kidney disease

5.Mental disorder

6.Depression

1.SUBSTANCE ABUSE:this is the use of illegal drugs or the use of prescription or over-the-counter drugs for purposes other than those for which they are meant to be used, or in excessive amounts.

drug abuse is another serious health concerns being face in 21st century mainly among the youths, This drug abuse habit predisposes the youth to diseases that may lead to early death such as Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD), lung cancer, tuberculosis and psychosomatic disorders.

2.FOOD INSECURITY: this is another problem to health, People experiencing food insecurity often consume a less nutrient diet, which may contribute to the development of hunger, malnutrition, undernourishment,obesity, heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and other chronic diseases. People who live in food-insecure households also have difficulties in managing diet-related chronic conditions.

3.CANCER: this is a disease in which abnormal cells divide uncontrollably and destroy body tissue. Most common types of cancer are listed; Breast cancer,Prostate cancer,Basal cell cancer,Melanoma,Colon cancer,Lung cancer,Leukemia,Lymphoma etc.

4.CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE: this is a condition in which the kidneys are damaged and cannot filter blood as well as they should, Diabetes and high blood pressure are the most common causes of chronic kidney disease (CKD).

5.MENTAL DISORDER: mental disorder are a leading cause of disability worldwide, this condition usually affect the mood, thinking and behavior. Types are; clinical depression, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, dementia, hyperactivity disorder, schizophrenia, Autism etc.

6.DEPRESSION: this is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act, it looks similar with mental disorder but there's a difference, depression occurs when there's a feeling of severe dejection,when one start having self-doubt.

WHY WE FACE THIS HEALTH CONCERNS IN 21ST CENTURY?

Why we face this health challenges in 21st century is because some factors have played significant roles in shaping the critical health conditions we see now and Addressing these challenges requires a comprehensive approach, some of these factors are;

a.Advancement in healthcare: the growth ratio of healthcare in 21st century has improved the quality of medication among the health facilities, increasing life expectancy with some of the newly introduced medical technologies, in as much as the improvement, it has also contributed to certain health challenges examples; all this highly produced medicine somethings are too toxic to the human body,most cases (Drug Abuse )

b.Environmental challenges: This is another serious threat or challenge to the human health, inadequate sanitation, climate change, water and air pollution mainly found in Africa example my country Nigeria where Air is being polluted by industries, illegal fuel exploitation and pipe linkage, contaminating the waters meant for human consumption

c.Behaviour changes: due to the rapid Advancement in growth of the world in themes of technology, people are now increasilly engaging in Less physical activities, preferring ready-made foods and also engaging in excess intake of alcoholic drinks and substance

Inconclusion, It is very important to keep in mind that these factors are intertwined and mutually influence one another, Lifestyle changes can be driven by environmental factors, such as the availability of unhealthy food options or exposure to environmental pollutants. Furthermore, advancements in healthcare can impact lifestyle choices through improved treatments for chronic diseases or the development of new drugs that may have unintended consequences on individual health.and also for us to address this situations there must be an understanding between the health system, government, communities and also the individuals to improve the general well-being of the people worldwide.
