The Uttar Pradesh government launched the Family ID (One Family, One Identity) scheme in 2021 to provide every family in the state with a unique 12-digit identification number. Initiated under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, this scheme aims to deliver government benefits transparently, efficiently, and inclusively. It targets families, with or without ration cards, ensuring all eligible households access welfare schemes, employment opportunities, and other services. The Family ID acts as a digital record, streamlining administrative processes and enhancing governance.

Purpose and Importance

The Family ID scheme creates a comprehensive database of all families in Uttar Pradesh, enabling precise identification of beneficiaries for government schemes. It ensures timely delivery of benefits like food security, pensions, and scholarships while reducing paperwork and corruption. The scheme also prioritizes employment opportunities for unemployed families, fostering economic upliftment. By integrating data, it minimizes duplication and enhances transparency in welfare distribution.

Key Features

  • Unique ID: Each family receives a 12-digit Family ID.
  • Ration Card Linkage: For ration card holders, their card number serves as the Family ID; others get a new ID.
  • Online Portal: The website (familyid.up.gov.in) facilitates registration, status checks, and updates.
  • Scheme Integration: Links to over 76 schemes, including pensions, scholarships, and food security.
  • Family ID Passbook: A digital or physical record containing family details and scheme information.
  • Flexibility: Allows updates for changes like births or marriages.

Eligibility

To register, families must be permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh. Any family member aged 18 or above can initiate the process. All members need an Aadhaar card linked to an active mobile number. Both ration card holders and non-holders are eligible, and the scheme accommodates joint or nuclear families.

Registration Process

Online

  • Visit familyid.up.gov.in and select "Registration."
  • Enter the head of the family’s mobile number and name, then verify with an OTP and captcha.
  • Input the head’s Aadhaar number for validation. Add details of all family members, including names and Aadhaar numbers.
  • Review the information and click "Final Submit." Save the application number and receive a temporary Family ID via SMS.

Offline

Visit a nearby Common Service Centre (CSC), pay a ₹30 fee, and submit documents like Aadhaar and address proof. Local authorities, such as a Lekhpal, verify the details.

Current Status

Around 3.6 crore families and 15 crore Aadhaar-validated ration card holders are enrolled. Ration card holders can use their card number as their Family ID and check it on the portal.

Benefits

The Family ID scheme in Uttar Pradesh revolutionizes welfare delivery with significant benefits. It ensures easy access to over 180 government schemes, including food security, pensions, scholarships, and healthcare, delivering timely support to eligible families. The scheme prioritizes employment opportunities for unemployed households, promoting economic upliftment.

A great centralized database minimizes paperwork, eliminates duplication, and reduces corruption, ensuring transparent benefit distribution. Online services, such as registration, status tracking, and updates, save time and enhance accessibility. Families can swiftly obtain essential certificates like income, caste, or domicile. By fostering inclusivity and efficiency, Family ID empowers families to improve their socio-economic well-being and access opportunities seamlessly.

Challenges

Some families face issues with Aadhaar-mobile linking. Rural areas lack awareness about the scheme. Verification delays occasionally occur, and limited internet or smartphone access poses barriers.

Impact

The scheme has linked 15 crore people to food security programs and issued over 1 lakh new Family IDs. It has improved administrative efficiency and ensured marginalized families receive benefits, promoting inclusivity.

Conclusion

The Family ID scheme is a groundbreaking effort in Uttar Pradesh, making welfare delivery seamless and transparent. All eligible families should register to unlock government benefits and enhance their socio-economic well-being.
