Data privacy refers to the protection of personal information from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, or destruction. This can include information such as names, addresses, social security numbers, financial information, and browsing history.Tsaaro is India's leading security & privacy consulting company, enable orgnaizations to take charge of their data privacy and cyber security compliance, developing a strategic and tactical plan for best practices.

Data privacy, sometimes also referred to as information privacy, is a subfield of data protection that deals with the proper handling of sensitive data, particularly personal data[1], as well as other confidential data, like specific financial data and intellectual property data, to meet regulatory requirements and to safeguard the data's immutability and confidentiality.

According to the Figure below, conventional data protection (such as backup and restore copies), data security, and data privacy are three broad categories that make up data protection. With the overall objective of attaining the ongoing availability and immutability of crucial business data, protecting the privacy of sensitive and personal data can be seen as an outcome of best practises in data protection and security.

To understand data privacy, it is important to know the following key concepts:

Personal Information: This refers to any information that can be used to identify an individual, such as name, address, or social security number.

Data Collection: This refers to the process of gathering personal information from individuals. This can be done through online forms, surveys, or tracking technologies like cookies.

Data Use: This refers to how personal information is used once it has been collected. This can include using the information for marketing or research purposes, or sharing it with third parties.

Data Protection: This refers to the measures taken to keep personal information safe from unauthorized access or use. This can include encryption, firewalls, and password protection.

Data Breaches: This refers to incidents in which personal information is accessed or used without authorization. This can include hacking, theft, or accidental release of information.

The legal definition can be very complicated if there is agreement on the value of data privacy to a company.

Data privacy is not explicitly defined by any of the most common regulations (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, etc.), so it is up to companies to decide what they view as best practise for their particular sector. In addition to the corresponding penalties, the law frequently refers to what is deemed "reasonable," which can vary between laws.

In actuality, this means that businesses that handle sensitive and private data should think about going beyond the bounds of the law to ensure that their data practises are far superior to those enumerated in the legislation.

Ensuring data privacy means you won't be the ominous business covertly stealing all of your customers' personal information, whether it comes from websites that secretly record every keystroke you make, apps that steal your personal address book, or passive location tracking.

Instead, employees should receive regular training on data protection so they are aware of the steps to take in order to gather, share, and use sensitive data in accordance with a data security portfolio.

Tsaaro is a data privacy and security consulting company based in India. They provide a wide range of services to help businesses protect their sensitive data and comply with relevant laws and regulations.
