As a writer, it is essential the message is clear, and well understood. This clarity mainly comes from how the paper is worded and organized. Being a descriptive writer reaps many benefits for both the author and reader. I believe descriptive writers, such as myself, focus on the reader more than anything. Making sure the reader understands and comprehends is one of my main priorities when composing an essay. I have learned being vague comes from my assumption that readers already possess the same prior knowledge as myself. Explaining my ideas and thoughts also helps me think, which is one of the many benefits I have received from being a vivid author. Because I am a descriptive writer, I am trained to search for detail, as well as being able to communicate to various audiences, and voice my stance on a certain subject.

Being descriptive forces me to delve deeper into detail. I focus on more concentrated detail, and small factors that may have a big impact. In a previous narrative essay I wrote, I was to explain my literary journey. Planning for this paper helped me think outside the box in a literal sense. I had to have an out of body experience to think of what factors made me the writer I am today. Down to the books I read growing up, to the middle school English classes, and high school assignments, I learned why I excel at some assignments more than others. In a way, it provided a sense of clarity, while I reflected on my past. I now believe every little detail takes part in every circumstance. Anything can have influence on a situation, which is an idea I use in everyday situations. I aim to have my ideas written clearly, it is important the reader understands my intentions, as well as what I learn while composing an essay.

My descriptive wording is mainly for the reader. It should be able to be understood by various audiences. If it is a younger reader, my goal is to have them still comprehend, even if it is with context clues. In an essay I composed titled "Analyzing Teenage Cultural Issues," I examined all possible causes of a teen’s risky behavior. My research was vigorous, and I poured through multiple sources to find every possibility. My wording was clear that these issues were serious. While composing the essay, I also discussed solutions for each issue. Writing this paper groomed me to be able to solve my own problems in a timely manner.

I believe having descriptive wording is very important in an argumentation essay. It is vital my point of view is stated clearly. In an essay I wrote focusing on the lack of awareness for teen’s mental health, I clearly stated more actions should be taken in order to aid teens in need. I focused on depression, a common mental illness. Describing my thoughts and opinions were very important. I was wholeheartedly in the teenagers’ corner. Because everyone does not have the same prior knowledge as I do on the illness, I explained the symptoms, effects, and forms of treatment. I argued superiors needed to take action, and even gave some different ways they could help a teenager as soon as they recognized symptoms. My stance was clearly stated. I am confident there was no confusion.

There is a difference between being descriptive, and being too wordy. Over the years, I have come to the conclusion that refraining from being wordy, yet still getting my message across is a learned skill. Being able to express my thoughts on paper did not come natural to me. I almost had to learn the “language” in a way. I used to believe writing in circles met the writing requirements for a higher level writing assignment. It is more about looking at detail, thinking about my audience, and how I am going to convey my message. While taking an English college course, I have found that I aim to be understood in my writing. My goal is for my writing to be easily comprehended, and even provoke the reader to question ideas. The benefits that come from being a descriptive author constantly influence my writing style. It is definitely a factor that shows the writer I am today.
