Writing sucks the soul out of your body.

Not for the timid.

It's a daunting endeavor, depressing and horrifying-but not always, it can feel like a drainage channel while you're in the thick of it.

You might think that writing isn't for everyone, but anyone can write it. And anyone can write inspiring articles. I've been writing for over 5 years, and during that time I've learned some things that can be very helpful in improving my writing.

So for passionate writers who don't know how to improve their writing, these tips will guide you and make you a better writer in the next two weeks.

1. The headline is half the battle

I'm reading this blog post because reading the headline gives you a clear idea of what the blog offers.

As a writer, you need to give your audience a glimpse of what's to come. Make it humorous, meaningful, and use headlines that convey what it says.

Avoid clickbait headings. I've seen writers suggesting making medium money "using Clickbait headlines". That's crazy advice.

The idea for headlines is to share the importance of blogging. Why readers want to read the entire blog.

Get inspired from the blogs BuzzFeed, FastCompany and Entrepreneur.

2. Write an attractive hook

As soon as the reader enters your blog, the first paragraph should catch their attention.

I often start blogging with one liner. You can use something interesting to get the reader's attention. Either a joke, a riddle, a problem your reader is facing, or a personal problem.

The first paragraph (called a hook) is your chance to keep your readers on your blog. You may get bored with statistics. Even common openings will drive them away. Try different hooking techniques. Please choose either one each time. But make sure it sticks to the leader.

3. Stay consistent

One piece of advice I would like to give to a new writer is "keep it consistent." I've been writing for Medium for 1.5 years and write articles 5 days a week every day. You may have heard other writers focus on quality rather than quantity. But I believe quantity brings quality. Writing 500-word articles every day trains your brain to quickly organize your ideas. You can write articles on the go.

4.4. Forget the word count

Unless you`re writing for a client that demands 1,000+ words, I suggest writing 300, 500, or 700word articles.

Your content should decide the word count. If you have fewer ideas, use a 300 or 500word article. If you have more ideas to share, increase the word count. But don`t increase the word count because others feel your article is short.

5. Use storytelling to get the reader's attention

People love stories.

Share your personal story in your article. Inspire people with real-life stories. You can also write about bug stories. Everyone talks about how people succeed, but people rarely read about failure.

Organize everyday events into a story and share it with your readers. Share pain, success, failure, and what you have learned from it.

People love to read inspiring, motivational, and uplifting stories.

Read fictional books to improve storytelling. Notice how the author gets the reader's attention. Copy their style and see how it works for you. If not, follow another author.

6. Move the leader-emotionally

The purpose of each article is to make the reader feel something. If your writing doesn't touch the reader emotionally, it's not worth it.

Use trigger words to evoke the reader's feelings.

The purpose is to improve the mental state of the reader. Before and after reading a blog, readers should feel empowered, hopeful, entertained, or educated.

If your blog doesn't bring anything to your readers, start from the beginning and write something worth reading. 7. Processing

The first draft is black and white. Editing adds color to the story. ~ Emma Hill

They sa they write drunk, but they edit it plainly. My first draft as an author is to put all the elements in a word processor. The actual work begins with editing. By editing, your text will be concise, simple, and easy to share.

Remove all words, lines, and paragraphs that do not bring value to the reader. Try to avoid fluffy words (extra words) to reach the number of words. If you want to increase the number of words, do more research and add more value to your article.
