Learning a foreign language should not be a stressor for either the child or the parent. But memorizing 30 new words in English can become a nightmare for the child, which can turn into a family quarrel. Do you think it's possible to memorize 30 words in 15 minutes? Try!

Start by finding answers to a few questions that will help you understand your child.

Why is it hard to remember?

The brain protects us from overload and constantly releases us from unnecessary information. This is why little ones from 3 to 6 years old have a short-term memory. If they do not repeat and use the new vocabulary in various circumstances, they look. You should know that from everything he learns, for a week, the child will remember a maximum of 20% of the information.

Is the child's space comfortable for studying?

It is very important to ventilate the child's room, it should be tidy, well lit, and the table should have all the necessary things: notebooks, sheets, cards, pencils, etc.

What do we store the information for?

We need to explain to the child what the accumulated information will be useful for. For example, we are learning the new theme - The kitchen. Go to the kitchen with the child and name him the chef. Show him every item in the kitchen and name it. Ask the child to repeat. When he understands where he will use this vocabulary, he will learn more easily.

  • What is this? (English - what's this?)
  • This is a plate. (this is a plate)
  • And what is this? (English - but what is this?)
  • This is a glass. (this is a glass)

Is the child motivated enough to learn?

Often adults want to see their reflection in their children. Or at least they should have what they didn't have as children. Answer honestly - does the child want to learn or you? If you understand that the little one does not want to learn, then you need to look for reasons to motivate.

For example, explain to them where they will use the subject matter, what their knowledge of a language will be used for. Don't forget to praise him for every progress and show him that you trust him.

Many children do not believe in themselves because they are afraid of the reaction of their peers. It's very important to tell them, "You can," "You know," "I know you know, let's try." You can also tell them motivational stories. Every child wants to be successful and their parents are happy, every child simply has his reasons. Look for them!

 Learning tricks

Learning through play.

"Let's do the lessons!" - is the expression that terrifies the child. Change it with the proposal - "Let's play!". For example, in the English lesson, the child had to learn the subject "Domestic animals" at home. You certainly have soft toys with various pets in the house.

An interesting game is to arrange the animals in front of us, show them one by one and name them in English; the child repeats the pronunciation after us. Once we have made sure that the pronunciation has been assimilated, let the fun begin!

You say, for example, that the cat will say "meow" and show the little animal in the pile; you say cow, he tells you mooo, pointing to the cow. Then you change roles.

 Learning through role play.

It is most difficult for children to memorize a new poem. Before you start learning poetry, make sure that the little one knows the translation of each word and the content of the whole text. Only then read the poem and ask the child to repeat.

We always change the tone so that the little one doesn't get bored. The child repeats after us the gestures and the tone of voice. Normal voice, whispering, and more whispering, slowly, with all the voice, and then we return to the usual voice.

After this method bores us (maximum 5 minutes), move on to another - role-playing.

The child will choose who he wants to be: giant, ant, robot, dinosaur, Spiderman, Rapunzel - anything. It's a lot of fun to talk in the voice of a kitten, a puppy, or a Batman. Usually, with this method, children learn a short poem in a maximum of 15 minutes.

 Mimic-gestural learning.

It is important to use facial expressions and gestures during the learning process. For example, learn the vocabulary on the topic "The weather".

  • How is the weather? (What time is it outside?)
  • It is rainy, we cover the head so that it does not rain
  • It is cold, we frown as if we were cold
  • It is sunny, we wave with our hands happy that the weather is good

Ask your child what time it is outside. Did he remember the word? Show him the gesture, he'll remember right away.

Learning through song.

The method of learning through song is very effective - it turns the lesson into a celebration.

Hidden cards.

Picture cards are very useful in studying the language. You can buy them from any bookstore or copy them on this site.

For example, you have to study 30 words on the subject of "Fruits". Take 30 pictures with the name of the fruit. Arrange the cards in 1–2 rows. You name them, and the child repeats after you.

We will do it at a certain tempo, warning the child that he must remember each image. After each reading, we will flip an image down (usually hidden images that are easier to memorize). When we get to the hidden card, the child will name what is behind it. Repeat until all images are hidden.

Smart cards.

This method is very effective because it develops attention in the child. It is very interactive in teaching a single child, but much more fun when siblings or friends are involved.

So, the cards that express pictures for memorization are shown to the children one by one. They repeat 3 times in the form of a song, after which we turn them facing us.

We'll take out a card at random, show it and hide it very quickly. The child will have to be careful and guess what was in the picture. The answer in English is accepted. The card goes to the child who guessed. Whoever wins more cards becomes the winner.

 Use your smartphone usefully.

The new generation is dependent on mobile phones. Then let's use them usefully! For example, film an interview with your child. Or encourage him to recite a poem in front of the camera.

If there are two children, have them act out roles, then watch the video together. Without your involvement, the child will understand where he went wrong. The advantage of filming is that it can be done until we get the most successful version.

Moreover, these methods can be used in other disciplines. Yes, it takes a lot of patience and understanding, but only through play and a positive attitude will you be able to help your little one to come to terms with homework.
