3 Best Sites for Job Search

Searching for jobs is a grueling and arduous process. But doesn’t have to be difficult, if you find the best sites and use them to your advantage. As a recent graduate, who is applying to entry-level jobs in the arts and culture sector, I have about a year of experience when it comes to applying with limited experience. I have applied to hundreds of jobs on many different platforms. Through this experience, I have found the best sites to look for jobs. Here they are and the pros and cons of each so that you can have the best experience on your job hunt as possible.

1. LinkedIn

Through LinkedIn, you have access to countless jobs in many different industries. It functions similarly to social media in that you can consistently update your profile to have all your experience in one place. Your page can be updated with posts about various career achievements including It is an engaging way for potential employers to view your past job history and skill set. This, combined with many other features, makes it my favorite platform for applying for jobs.

There is an incredible filtering system with unique specifications on LinkedIn. The specifications that you can use to filter jobs include location, skill, industry, and job title. This helps to narrow down the jobs in your search. You can also save set specifications for saved job searches. This feature can also send you recurring emails with jobs that fit the specifications you have set. Instantly, you can get jobs set to your inbox tailored to your expertise and interest. Based on past submitted applications, LinkedIn also includes recommended jobs. The jobs tab for LinkedIn makes it easy for you to see jobs that you have saved and applied for. You can either apply to these jobs right away or save them for later. The Easy Apply feature on LinkedIn helps me not just save jobs for later but actively apply whenever I open the app. This is extremely helpful for a proactive job search.

There are some cons to keep in mind. It is a better experience for premium LinkedIn users, including exclusive access to LinkedIn Learning. I find the premium version worth it when you are in between jobs, however, I would not recommend paying for it monthly if you are currently employed and not searching for additional employment. The perks include the ability to send messages to people you are not connected with and the ability to see how you rank in the composition of applicants. Another Premium feature is that you can highlight a job application as a top choice. This lets the company know that you are highly interested in the position. You can only add this to 3 job applications a month, making it highly exclusive and a great way to highlight your favorite positions.

Another con is that if you are like me, a recent graduate and new to the job market, there are some entry-level jobs, but due to many applicants, it can be competitive at times. I have applied to jobs within the first few days of it being posted and sometimes there can be over 200 applicants. This is something to keep in mind as you apply. Make sure that you are within the first 20 applicants to ensure that your application is not just a drop in the bucket of hundreds of applicants.

2. Indeed

One of the reasons why Indeed ranks highly as one of my favorite sites is because it is completely free and it tailors its search to previous jobs you have applied to. You can easily edit your Indeed resume or upload a resume of your own. It is also very simple to add extra attachments to applications like writing samples and cover letters on this platform. I find it confusing to attach additional documentation on LinkedIn. I also find the platform limiting to how many things you can attach. However, on Indeed, the amount of attachments for a job application is limitless.

I also like the site because provides salary ranges and company ratings so that you can evaluate if the company would be a good fit for you. The company ratings for any industry are available to you on this platform. You can look at the most highly rated companies in your industry and read detailed reviews of experience from past employees. There is high competition for jobs, and similarly to LinkedIn, you can see how many applicants there have been. This is important to know how likely it will be that they will move forward with their application.

On a lot of external websites for jobs, it can be extremely useful to either be on Indeed or LinkedIn. This is because, on some external sites, it will allow you to sign in with your Indeed or LinkedIn profile. For example, I was applying for a position on an external applying system for a large non-profit organization and it allowed me to sign in with either Google, Facebook, LinkedIn or Indeed. If you don’t take anything else away from this article, create profiles on LinkedIn and Indeed as soon as possible to search for a new position.

There are a few cons to this site to keep in mind. One is that you can only have two different resumes with direct access. The Indeed resume and one uploaded. As someone interested in many diverse job positions in the arts and entertainment sector, I find this frustrating. On other platforms, you can choose from a few different resumes that you have previously uploaded. Indeed does not allow this. As a result, I have found myself having to upload a specific resume each time I apply for a job.

3. ZipRecruiter

ZipRecruiter makes it extremely easy to apply to a large selection of jobs. Similarly to Easy Apply on LinkedIn, they have the 1 Click Apply feature. This again helps me to be proactive in my job application process. It is simple to apply with the profile you have created. This profile included links to other profiles, education history, and employment history. You can also upload a resume in Word or pdf format. It also gives you the option to select whether you are open to relocation or whether you are open to remote jobs. That way it will only show you jobs that you are willing to commit to. I have not seen another job site that limits the jobs by these two specifications, and I wish that more considered these specifications.

Throughout your time using the platform, it will prompt you to rate the recommended job section. You can either select whether you are satisfied with the job opportunities or that you are unsatisfied with the job opportunities. This way the selection can be updated and real time to match your needs. There is also an in-built ranking system to help you filter through jobs and find the best match for you.

Another feature that is very helpful on this platform is the ability to see salaries for specific job titles or within a certain industry. This is helpful so that you can track whether you are being compensated fairly in the jobs that you are applying for. It also allows you to counter offers that you may receive with salaries for comparable positions in similar companies. It is also helpful if you are looking to make a career shift to a more lucrative industry. This platform shows you what job positions are higher paying and what industries are growing fastest.

One con about this platform is that the jobs on here do not show up on other platforms. If you are interested in a job on ZipRecruiter, I would recommend applying it promptly. Otherwise, you may not see that opportunity again. These opportunities are unique to the platform.

Overall, these three platforms are extremely helpful in connecting to jobs that match your interests and experience. I have had success on all three platforms in researching jobs, applying, interviewing, and booking high-paying jobs that interest me. There are cons to each, which is why it is important to apply on multiple platforms to ensure success during a job search. It was also important to use multiple platforms to have access to a wealth of opportunities.

That being said, I do have a favorite of these three sites which is LinkedIn. I find the platform easy to use and there is tons of access to jobs worldwide. I have found incredible success on Indeed and ZipRecruiter, and as a result, I will continue using all three in perspective job searches.
