Women's Day: Choose to Challenges

International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8th each year to honor the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It's a day to celebrate women's progress and raise awareness about the challenges they face in their daily lives. This year, the theme for International Women's Day is "Choose to Challenge," which aims to encourage individuals to challenge gender bias and inequality.

Women have made significant strides in various fields over the years. However, there is still a long way to go to achieve gender equality. Women face numerous challenges in their daily lives, including discrimination, harassment, and violence. Women continue to experience gender-based violence, which has worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the United Nations, 243 million women and girls aged 15-49 have been subjected to sexual and/or physical violence by an intimate partner in the past 12 months.

Choose to Challenge.

International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8th each year, and the theme for 2021 is "Choose to Challenge." This theme encourages people to challenge gender biases and inequality and to create a more inclusive and equitable world.

As I do not have a gender identity, but I recognize the importance of this day for celebrating the achievements of women and raising awareness about the issues they face.

There are many ways to choose to challenge, and here are some examples:

Educate yourself: Take the time to learn about the challenges that women face in different parts of the world. Read books, articles, and watch documentaries that highlight these issues.

Speak out: Use your voice to challenge gender biases and stereotypes. Speak up when you witness sexism, harassment, or discrimination.

Support women: Be an ally and support the women in your life. Advocate for their rights and help them to succeed.

Empower women: Help to create opportunities for women to succeed in their chosen fields. Mentor and encourage them to pursue their dreams.

Hold leaders accountable: Urge leaders to take action to promote gender equality and to address the issues that women face.

Remember, it's up to all of us to create a more equitable and just world. Let's all choose to challenge gender bias and inequality, not just on International Women's Day, but every day.

Furthermore, women continue to be underrepresented in leadership positions, including in politics, business, and academia. According to a report by the World Economic Forum, it will take 135.6 years to close the global gender gap at the current rate of progress. Gender equality is not just a women's issue, but a human rights issue that affects everyone.

One of the ways to achieve gender equality is by empowering women and girls. Education is an essential tool for empowerment. Educating girls not only benefits them but also their families, communities, and countries. However, many girls around the world still do not have access to education. According to UNESCO, 130 million girls between the ages of 6 and 17 are out of school globally.

Another way to achieve gender equality is by closing the gender pay gap. Women continue to earn less than men for doing the same job. According to the World Economic Forum, women earn just 63% of what men earn globally. The gender pay gap not only affects women's economic well-being but also their overall well-being, including their ability to access healthcare, education, and retirement benefits.

Gender equality also means ensuring that women have access to healthcare services, including sexual and reproductive health services. Women's access to healthcare is essential for their overall well-being and for the well-being of their families. However, women still face many barriers to accessing healthcare, including stigma, discrimination, and lack of access to information.

In conclusion, International Women's Day is a day to celebrate women's progress and raise awareness about the challenges they face in their daily lives. While women have made significant strides in various fields, there is still a long way to go to achieve gender equality. Gender equality is not just a women's issue, but a human rights issue that affects everyone. By empowering women and girls, closing the gender pay gap, and ensuring that women have access to healthcare services, we can work towards a more just and equal world for all. Let's choose to challenge gender bias and inequality and work towards a better future for everyone.
