Idlib: Thousands of rescue workers are still scouring through flattened buildings after a massive earthquake left a trail of destruction in Syria and Turkey.

In the midst of destruction and despair, miraculous tales of survival continue to emerge. In one such rescue, an entire family was rescued in the Idlib province in western Syria earlier this week.

Three children and two adults were pulled out from the rubble of their home as a huge crowd cheered and chanted - "God is great."

The video of the rescue was shared by the Syria Civil Defence volunteer organisation, The White Helmets.

Traffic jams, water-filled underpasses, hills of concrete and rubble, buildings with deep cracks and people rendered homeless in sub-zero temperatures – the images of devastation filed past as the Indian Army’s 99-member medical team undertook an arduous five-hour drive to the quake-hit city of Iskenderun, in southern Turkey’s Hatay province, minutes after they landed in the country.

After an eight-hour-long flight from India, the Army’s 60 Para Field Hospital unit had landed in Turkey in two separate batches on Tuesday, just hours after a massive earthquake struck Turkey and killed nearly 19,000 people and injured thousands. The team had almost immediately set off for Iskenderun.

At Iskenderun, the job at hand was urgent: to find a building without cracks. Speaking to The Sunday Express from Iskenderun, Lt. Col. Yaduvir Singh, commanding officer of the 60 Para Field Hospital, said, “We found a steady school building without cracks close to a hospital. It took us nearly five hours to set up the hospital. By evening, we were ready to see patients.”

The team of 13 doctors, paramedics, and other staff are at Iskenderun as part of Operation Dost, a mission to provide medical assistance and treatment to earthquake-affected victims.

"A true miracle...the sounds of joy embrace the sky... joy beyond belief. An entire family was rescued from under the rubble of their house this afternoon, Tuesday, February 7, in the village of Bisnia, west of #Idlib. #Syria #earthquake," the White Helmets tweeted.

The video shows the rescue workers brining the children to an ambulance. The adults are also seen being carried out from the collapsed building on stretchers.

The rescues have brought shimmers of joy amid overwhelming devastation days after Monday's 7.8-magnitude quake demolished thousands of buildings, killing more than 28,000 people and leaving millions homeless.

The death toll in the devastating earthquake in Turkey has reached close to 25 thousand. In this earthquake, the body of an Indian businessman missing since February 6 has been recovered from the debris. The Indian Embassy in Turkey said in a statement, "We inform with sadness that the body of Vijay Kumar, an Indian national who went missing since the February 6 earthquake in Turkey, has been found from the debris of a hotel in Malatya."

The Indian Embassy further informed that Vijay Kumar was in Turkey on a business trip. In the statement of the embassy, along with expressing condolences to the family, it has been said that arrangements are being made to bring his body as soon as possible.

Significantly, after the earthquake in Turkey, there are some Indians among the missing people. Even at this time, debris is scattered everywhere in Turkey and the cries are still going on. The death toll is also increasing continuously. The death toll has reached close to 25 thousand.
